It's almost Halloween, so this is pretty necessary.

In your experiences through your life, what is the most spookiest and truest thing to happen to you?

For example, something common such as sleep paralysis. Seeing and hearing something calling your name, and you just know you aren't making it up.

I've seen three spirits in my neighborhood. One time, I saw something in the corner of my eye and looked up and swear I saw a pale green glow, and in it, a woman looking up to the sky and she was in some dress like you'd see from somewhere around mid 1800s to very early 1900s. As soon as I was directly looking at it, it disappeared. This other time, in my house, by the front door, I saw a spirit orb. I've seen on paranormal TV shows spirit orbs on camera, and it is what I saw. It was the physical manifestation of a spirit and it was a white orb with a gentle glow and it appeared, floated gently around by the front door in one linear path, and then disappeared. The third one I saw, I was walking in my neighborhood at dusk and I saw, out of nowhere by some trees in a neighbors lawn (but not high up, close to the ground), an orange light just appeared. It happened very quickly, maybe a second to a second and a half at the longest. At first it was small, then it swelled up to a bigger orange manifestation, and then it disappeared. It probably got about 2' x 2' or maybe 2' x 2.5'. It was completely silent and I don't think it was a physical phenomenon, like (somehow) fire appearing out of nowhere and then disappearing.

I don't have any paranormal stories or anything that's crazy. I've heard quiet voices/whispering but I know that was just me being insane.
So have whatever kind of story this is instead.

When I was younger, my older brother tightly mummified me in my blanket while I was sleeping, (Downside of being a heavy sleeper.) He then somehow got me into my closet. locked me in the closet, and violently beat on the door while saying nonsensical things to freak me out. It worked extremely well. Very disorienting experience.

I don't really have any ghost stories I'd like to share that happened to me personally, but my dad had an experience that really... disoriented him, I guess. It wasn't scary, though.

I have two older sisters that are from my dad's side of the family only - in other words, half-sisters. One time, my dad was in the car with one of them and the car broke down. They went to go get help (as they were in the middle of nowhere), and it was storming out. My half sister, who was very young at the time, saw that my dad was worried about the storm and said something along the lines of "Don't worry, Daddy, Nana's here to protect us." She then went on to describe the lady (who I think she said was floating) in perfect detail, down to the way she did her hair, the accessories she had on, etc.

The thing is, my dad didn't have a picture or drawing or anything of his grandmother and never described what she looked like to Angela. He is still puzzled by that encounter to this day. For whatever reason, his grandmother seemed to be there to protect him and Angela. He went on to tell me that he had several close encounters with lightning, nearly being struck several times with it while carrying Angela on his shoulder, but neither he or my half-sister was ever hurt.

I think I should just say right now that I wasn't born at the time this story took place, but I have talked to my dad several times about it, and I asked him all these questions to try to 'debunk' it. He said that it wasn't possible for her to have overheard something like that, even when she was asleep, because he and his ex-wife never talked about his family. I have not been able to debunk it to this day, so yeah.

Also, Alchemeister, that sounds terrifying O_O

This didn't happen to me, but I have a friend who can see ghosts/spirits whatever you want to call them. He describes them as a shadowy figure. One time, he and a friend were walking at night and they turned into an alley. My friend said he heard a wooden cane hit the ground, he turned around and told his friend to stay close and to run.

Gave me the goosebumps when he told me that story.

This is a true story that happened to me and my friend!

I used to live in a town in New Jersey, a small town, Pitman. I used to live on the main road in town, bordering that of Glassboro. Now, this old house has a history of many people passing since it's construction about 70 odd years ago. Anyways, just a brief history...
Now, I lived there from 2001-2012, and I gotta say, in my time there, here's what happened one day; this I will never forget.

On a rainy night after an early return from a Marching band competition (Around October 2006), my friends parents were away in the Florida Keys for vacation, so he came to stay at my house for the weekend. We were kids (both 16, acting like we're 5) but the fun we had was always the best. Anyways, on that Saturday during the weekend, my parents had gone to dinner with their friends for a birthday, and had left us alone. This was sweet, as we now had free roam of the whole house! Nerf wars were had, pizza rolls were devoured, and sleep seemed like a myth. As it rolled around 1:30 AM, we were in the basement, and heard footsteps upstairs. 'Aw man, they're home...' I sighed in my head, and looking at him I think he had had the same thought.
So, we picked up everything, went upstairs to say hello, and nobody was home. The TV was off, the lights weren't on (except for the dining room, which had a dimmer), and there were no cars in the driveway. I had gotten a call from my mom telling me that they wouldn't be home until the morning, apparently they both had a little much to drink and didn't feel safe driving. (at least they're smart). So, I looked at my friend and asked
'Didn't you hear footsteps earlier?' I asked, wondering if it was just me.
'Yeah, I did, weird, guess it was just the floor creaking or something,' he said, putting his hands on his head and stretching.
After that, we cleaned whatever else we forgot to, went to the living room, turned on the TV, and went to sleep. At this point, it was around 3:15/30 AM.
I woke up around 3:55, frantically running to the bathroom. As I was doing my business, I heard my friend snoring and coughing in the next room. He was really loud, but I was a heavy sleeper so he never really woke me up ever. As I was finished, I went back to the living room, and the front door was wide open. The screen door was closed, but the main door was all the way open. It usually creaks, so I should have heard it. I go to close it, and feel a cold chill run through me. I continue to close the door, lay back down on the couch, and fall back asleep.
We both woke up to a loud crash around 4:30, and we noticed the TV was off. If was on an automatic timer, I guess, so we both really didn't pay too much mind to it. The noise sounded like it came from the kitchen, so we both went to look. As we entered, nothing was out of the ordinary. Nothing broken, nothing opened, nothing wrong. We looked at each other as if we were insane, and he started to laugh it off. After he finished laughing at me, as I was scared, we heard something. It sounded like a cough, coming from the sun room. (little den on side of house). So, I opened the double doors to find, again, nothing. Then the cough came from my room, which was next to the bathroom. I was seriously scared at this point, but my friend was through with it. He ran to my room, came back, and said nothing was there.
At this point, he was angry and thinking I was pranking him, but I was shaking so badly, I couldn't hide the fact I was scared out of my mind. He decided that we should investigate, and that he'll turn on his cellphone's mic to ask questions. I could sense that he wouldn't take no for an answer, so I reluctantly said ok. We headed downstairs to the basement, looking in my brothers room, the laundry room, the basement living room, the workshop... Nothing was wrong. Again, we heard footsteps above us. This time, they sounded like heels. Then harder, and harder, and louder, and heavier, like a boot... More coughing, and then muttering. At this point we thought someone was in the house. Indefinitely. I put my fingers in my ears. I was scared (not afraid to admit). He was scared too, even though he's a tough guy. So we went back upstairs and nobody was in the house (of course). So we turned the TV back on, and lay there, wondering. Then, as if we both wanted to, we looked in the dining room, towards the kitchen. There we both saw her. A woman. In a white bed dress... Both of us screamed and immediately left the house. We ran down the street to our friends house, calling his cellphone, asking him to spend the rest of the night.
When we woke up, around 10 AM, my phone rang and when I picked up, my mom yelled at me... 'Where are you?! Why is the front door wide open!?!?' --- Oh, right, I forgot to close the door... I had explained to her what happened, and she shook her head and smacked me in the head. Even though my friend told her that it really happened, she didn't believe us. Nor did my dad.
Til this day, I remember her crying looking face, and it haunts my dreams... I'm sure my friend feels the same, and we talk about it from time to time...
