Just curious, but has anyone read a manga called magika no kenshi to shoukan maou?

If not, that would be very relative in this discussion, considering that it's condensed version of IS, TWGOK, Blade Dance, SNH, DAL, and StB.

Infinite Stratos IS the bad Infinite Stratos.
Actually I liked season 1, but season 2 felt like all filler with no progression at all. From what I understand, that's how it is in the books as well. So I don't have any hope for it.

As far as Bladedance, I liked the light novels, and felt they got better as things progressed. I also found the anime entertaining. Not necessarily good, but hopefully it will get better as it progresses as well.

Infinite Stratos was fine (fuck Char though, there I said it, I don't like her)

Infinite Stratos 2 is up in the air for me because while I liked the new characters, it didn't really throw enough actual plot at me until the end which ended abruptly and unresolved.

The first IS got a better pass from me on the point on plot because they spent most of the show introducing the harem. IS2 only had to introduce 2 but they spent so damn long with it. And the whole Chifuyu clone/sister shit was shafted a little too much into the background.

Blade Dance was also fine. I liked the characters. I liked Claire to an extent when she wasn't being manipulated repeatedly though I can understand why her character was so focused on gaining power (she went fucking Sasuke there, you never go full Sasuke).

All in all though Blade Dance is better than IS on the sole fact that Kamito so far doesn't appear to be as dense as Ichika...but then again IS has Chifuyu-nee so I'll say they're equal.

It's Charl by the way and she's the best! :D

I'm not going to compare IS season 2 to anything because I was disappointed in it and thought season 1 was better. I like Kamito a helluva a lot better than Ichika. Ichika is too damn dense for me. The girls are a toss up for me because I really liked Ellis and Charl from both series. I think I would enjoy seeing more of where Blade Dance goes from season 1 because after IS season 2 I didn't feel like I wanted to know what happened from that point on.

I prefer Bladedance solely based on the MC. Ichika made IS unbearable. Kamito is much more entertaining, although still not one of my favorite harem MCs like Kasuga Arata from Trinity Seven, or Nanjo Shinobu from Tsuki Tsuki.

Honestly I try to look at every series on it's own and not to compare it with others, Sometimes I can do it and not do it. It the different between Seirei Tsukai no Blade Dance & Infinite Stratos. It's easy. They were both good to me anyways (Overlooking IS's seceond season :P)

Seirei Tsukai no Blade Dance has it's charms for me with and only Est and the plot of the Blade Dance.
Infinite Stratos has it's charms for me with the various girls I love with the ISs.

Infinite Stratos is crap, but High School DxD is good?

Nah, man.

Lol HIgh School DxD is out there on the Echi pole (not Seikon no Qwaser we play with henti limt) but I would be damned if they didn't put a good plot together out of what I clicked for fun one night. Seriously that show is much better than most people ever think an echi could be.

The thing with Infinite Stratos is that it barely even tried to have a story. It was a very mediocre anime with a painfully annoying MC and a couple of good side characters. With both seasons of IS it felt as if the fanservice was the main attraction and the story was what felt invasive and unnecessary. As a harem anime it wasn't that great either. I'm fine with MCs who end up not really choosing anyone, but if they're so dense that they still wouldn't get it even if the girl was splayed in a suggestive position on his bed, naked, with a sign that said "I wanna fuck you!" then that makes for a terrible harem, because it virtually denies the possibility of him ending up with any of the girls.

In my opinion, the only reason you would watch IS again is not because of the main character or even the laughable attempt at a story, but for the lesser characters.

What Blade Dance did better was that it gave us an MC who wasn't a total moron, and it didn't shove the main story into the background and make it essentially unnecessary and invasive. I mean, sure it has the same usual tropes and it's not winning any prizes in originality, but I've said it before; it's not trying to be anything new. Ironically enough, I believe it's much better than the anime it's arguably copying.

And I want to like IS more, since two of my favourite characters, Tatenashi and Laura, come from there, but a couple of characters can't carry an entire show.

Infinite Stratos MC is terrible IMO compare to Seirei Tsukai no Blade Dance MC. I couldnt watch HighSchool DXD as well, since I found the MC too perverted for my own taste. On that note, I do like Trinity Seven alot perhaps due to the MC since I believe he is alot better than the rest.

FUCK IS. that is all.

Blade Dance is marginally better if only for the fact that it actually has a story. not a GOOD story, but a story. it only has 1 (arguably 2) good character(s).

High School DXD is much better than both, but could be a lot better of a series if it didn't focus so much on Issei and how much of a perv he is. I don't mind the ecchi of the series, but Issei is just annoying.

if you want a GOOD harem with GOOD characters and a GOOD story, watch Date A Live. though... season 2 felt rushed at the end...

However, I think they're two different shows. Sure, they are harems with one similar premise, but that's it, at least in my eyes. I don't feel that they copy shows all that much. I don't even feel that harems are all that similar. I can usually find one

I'll disagree. They're the same vehicle with different coats of paint. One Mecha, One Spirit Summoning.

They feature the same characters in the sane roles doing the same things. IS had the benefit of a more personalized art style. Its characters managed to visually look better than previous standards.

Bladedance is too shameless in its stereotypes. Red head Tsundere's are the early 2000's. Blue and Yellow are too shallow to deserve names, and Purple is just the childhood friend with belated arrival..

IS didn't have anything but an art style, but this is enough to overshadow Bladedance.

IS's art style is unique? Looks pretty normal to me. I still think they're different shows. They maybe "the same vehicle with different coats of paint", however those two vehicles will have experiences and stories that will eventually differentiate them from each other.

When you have watched a good amount of anime, it starts to not matter.

I have no experience in this manner.

You know, the original light novels for both series were released near the same time (within 2 years).

Is it possible that both series picked up fans? Perhaps some overlap occurred, but is it possible that fans of each series wanted to see their story they've enjoyed to be animated?

Many things in anime have been done before and people still consume the same thing over and over. My thoughts on this general issue is - if there wasn't a market for "more of the same" then many things wouldn't have been animated. Also, you may not enjoy this hobby for long if you always have to compare things - most are happy to receive more of what they like. If you always thought in the way of "X is a bad version of Y" - you could spend a few months watching a grand list of amazing anime and, except for a rare oddball airing show, you could "clear" this hobby. Many of us will still be happy with 0.90Y, ect.
