Have you ever watched, read, or played something with just incredible character dialogue? What was it?

Personally, mine is anything by Nisio Isin. His dialogue is just incredible.

ef: A Tale of Memories
ef: A Tale of Melodies.

Thank you to Asura who recommended it.

Not only is the art style amazing but the story is just one dazzling piece of puzzle I enjoyed piecing together to the very end.

I don't know how the discussion could be complete without this dialogue:

A lot of works by Yuki Kodama. For example, Sakamichi no Apollon; The responses and reactions of other characters are so human compared to most anime and manga.

"There are many types of monsters that scare me: Monsters who cause troubles without showing themselves, monsters who abduct children, monsters who devour dreams, monsters who suck blood… and then, monsters who tell nothing but lies. Lying monsters are a real nuisance: They are much more cunning than others: They pose as humans even though they have no understanding of the human heart; they eat even though they’ve never experienced hunger; they study even though they have no interest in academics; they seek friendship even though they do not know how to love. If I were to encounter such monsters, I would likely be eaten by them… because in truth, I am that monster."

"Mark my words! This drill will open a hole in the universe! And that hole will be a path for those behind us! The dreams of those who've fallen! The hopes of those who'll follow! Those two sets of dreams weave together into a double helix! Drilling a path towards tomorrow! And that's Tengen Toppa! That's Gurren Lagann!! My drill is the drill...that creates the heavens!!!" - Simon the digger

Nia: Even when trapped by karma's cycle...
Yoko: The dreams we left behind will open the door!
Leeron: Even if the universe stands in our way!
Viral: Our seething blood will determine what will be!
Simon: We'll break through time and space!
Team Dai-Gurren: And defy all who would stop us, to grab hold of our path!
Simon: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann!
Team Dai-Gurren: JUST WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK WE ARE?!

Yes, Nisio Isin is definitely a master with dialogue.
Monogatari series is a prime example.

The Disgaea games also have some pretty humorous dialogue,
sometimes (just sometimes) with serious talk.

Pretty much all VN are entirely dialogue based as well,
and many actually are pretty well done in that aspect.

If it's internal dialogue you're looking for,
look no further than Hikigaya 8man (Oregairu).

Nope, hands forcing the mask open.

You defintely have great taste. My favorite courtroom movie (and among my top 10 favorite classic movies ever). Just hearing every man come to terms with who and what they were was handled perfectly.

As far as anime goes, Angel Beats did it for me once it hit it's serious stride. When Yui and Kanade told thier tales it was so 3D it was hard not to feel the heartbreak.
