It is frustrating watching an anime and just when it is about to get good and bloody, in comes this black slice on the screen. The gore, blacked out...

I have seen a lot more of this lately. Has there been new laws enacted in japan about this? Whats going on and how do we stop it?

Yea, that's censorship. It's Japanese law. It's kinda like the white sunlight on the nude bits. Usually on the disc release there is no censorship.

How long have they been doing this? It seems like a more recent (this year) trend.

Buy it when it's on DVD or Blu-ray for the uncensored version, unfortunately.

Gore is played out. We need more inventiveness instead of creating further numbness through unnecessary violent content.

It's been a thing for quite some time, it is censorship laws after all. It's just that it seems that gorey anime are popular at this time so it's more noticeable. That's all it isn't really a recent trend, it's just an abundance of gore.

Sorry all, I've closed because there are already a couple of threads about the subject. I'm also closing one of the older ones that hasn't been active for quite a while, but there was some more recent activity in another. Here is the link; please post your current thoughts there:
