Ebola and Bakas
Posted 10/4/14 , edited 10/4/14
There's been a few posts about ebola here, but I have a different angle to take.

People are getting crazed about it.

I understand the threat of a mass outbreak is scary, but most people piping up to say something haven't a clue as to what the real case is. Yes, ebola is highy, highly contagious and fatal, but, only transmitted through bodily fluids. Here in the developed world, we know how to handle situations like this. Ebola is highly deadly in the areas it's been hitting hardest because they have minimal healthcare and terrible living standards. Here in the U.S., our doctors are trained to handle this stuff. I'm not saying it's not a threat or bad, it's just not as horrific as it sounds.

Also, ebola is not some new disease. It's been around for a long time, and this is not the first time it's been thought to have posed a threat to the US. You look at recent history, with bird flu and swine flu, the panics that broke out over these.

(Stupid) people keep calling to close the borders, refuse flights from outside the U.S., pull our humanitarian efforts from West Africa. To be honest, the first two will do nothing as there are 2 ]cases in the U.S. And letting millions of people die in those countries in Africa is not the right thing to either.

I know this is a very current topic, especially in the US, but to be honest I think there's a lot of misinformation going around, and that's bad.

TL;DR - Chill out kudasai

Ebola won't even kill 10 people in the US.. We're too careful and we know how to prevent the spread.. Only a new virus or a deadly mutation in an existing one will do real damage.. Chill out people.. Chances of you catching Ebola is slim.

people are just scared because all they heard about the ebola virus is how deadly it is. They don't know anything other than it can kill thousands of people. What is saying is right but can you blame people for being scared or concerned over a deadly disease

i read that more than 100 NHS health workers volunteered... that's awesome

My brother actually survived the swine flu... Anyways, I agree with what you said. Ebola spread like crazy in Africa, because Africa is kind of... underdeveloped. In the U.S. doctors are VERY VERY careful not to get infected. That and the medical equipment here is up to date, so it should be easier to treat the virus.

It sounds so cute when females use the word "baka."
When a guy does it...

Doctors are not as knowledgeable as they pretend to be on television, ask one for advice about the treatment of a family member dying slowly of cancer and you will see what I mean.

They are smart people, but there are a lot of things out there that no one has enough knowledge about. One of those things is: how does a doctor who did not come in contact with any Ebola patients or their body fluids come down with Ebola? I am sure they have a good explanation, I am just waiting for it. And waiting for it.

There is an old book about Ebola in Reston, Virginia, in the 1970s [only lab monkeys got it] which points out that the way some out of control outbreaks of Ebola were contained was by human panic, everyone scattered and did not carry out the usual funeral rites for their dead, the infected died, and the uninfected did not get infected because they panicked and spread out. One advantage of an advanced medical system is you do not have to panic too early, when it is time to panic the clue will be the dead people left in the streets. I do not see that happening this time around.

I feel as though it's "Trendy" right now because it sounds so dangerous, like borderline zombie virus..... minus the dying part. O_o

What i keep imagining is if someone with the virus dies in a major source of drinking water, or because (I heard someone say) that it takes like 10+ days to know if you even have it. and That's plenty of time for you to contaminate everyone you know with the virus.

OOOOh or what if a evil person with lots of money spreads the disease around america? What's your thought on that, and DON'T say that it's a stupid idea because i've thought about doing some messed up things and i'm generally a good person :3

My mother has been freaking out about it a lot lately. She keeps texting me in the middle of the day to tell me to make sure I'm washing my hands and whatever else, and she's freaking out about the person that has it in Texas... which mind you is over a thousand miles away from where I live. She has it in her mind that we're all going to die and that someone in the US has it, that completely proves it.

I hate how every time the media makes a ruckus she freaks out to me about it. I'm so sick of it. I feel like I just need to go over there and break her TV or cut her satellite dish cord.
