I deal with it but the TnA part of it is way over done and is not needed in most anime. I've dropped a few anime for that reason as they rather have that than actual plot

sometimes it doesnt fit, like highschool of the dead. better off without it.

heavens lost property, on the other hand, its a vital part of the story.

queens blade season 1 was all fanservice. it was a fun show. it worked. it was stupid to the extreme, but fun.

i think its over done in most anime. i care less about TnA and more about emotional connections. there are not enough in anime for my tastes.

to many shows never get beyond that, 'confession' point of the relationship. it just leaves me wanting more.

edit: episode 1 of 'no game no life' was straight up revolting. i soo dont want to se 12 year old cameltoe. WTF?! so out of place and just wrong.

yukari the witch in rosario vampire was another one i can never unsee. dont want to see a topless 12 year old. no. just no.

Honestly, as long as the fanservice is not the sole purpose of a character, I'm usually pretty alright with it. Somethimes it makes me uncomfortable, but even then I tend to attribute that to me not being in the show's target demographic.
I'm generally not a big fan of fanservice, but I admit it can be funny and actually "serve its purpose" well at times.
The way it is used in a show can make all the difference. For example, the T&A from Kill la Kill I really didn't have too much problem with. They were there to just make the fight scenes just that much more ridiculous, and they fulfilled that purpose IMO. However, if fanservice shows up in like a rape scene, that's just a BIG moral no-no for me, and I just can't bear to continue watching the show at that point.

I look at the issue this way. Why do authors or artists employ fan service? That is depicting their characters in a sexualised manner? Primarily I think it’s to appeal to men if they are drawing half naked women or having their women wear clothes no real woman would ever wear. They might do it solely for the purpose of answering the question “What does x character look like in his/her underwear or naked?” They might do it because they themselves are obsessed with thinking of their character naked.
But do they do it for artistic reasons? Is there a purpose behind a character suddenly and abruptly doing something sexual or dressing in that way? There might be a way to engage this topic in a respectable way, engage with the society in which I honestly do see women trying to wear less and less. I’m a bit of a prude so perhaps it’s just more pronounced to me, but why do women dress in tight fitting tops, shorts or have their cleavage exposed to ridiculous levels? Men aren’t immune to the criticism as well although its obviously less of a problem I feel for men. I think it’s done for attention because there’s a critique that can be made against the way people dress and act in public but authors and artists never make the critique. Instead they embrace the sexy school girl trope, the slender badass woman warrior who wears next to nothing and the people who read their works conversely accept it although I think most of us honestly groan whenever we see it. And this is done in a society claiming to be enlightened feminists who respect the rights of women to depict them first as objects of desire and then characters.
There are some exceptions and the one prominent example in my mind is in Eureka seven where Talho, dresses in a tight fitting shirt and skirt and the direction of the animation exploits this up until later in the series when she gets pregnant and suddenly changes into something which is more respectable. That represents moving on to a more mature attitude than I recall her having in the beginning of the series, mainly jealously towards Eureka for stealing her lover’s attention. Even then I find the fan service in that show unforgivable as I find it in virtually all anime.
I like for there to be meaning whenever possible in fiction and fan service is an appeal to the most base instinct of men, sexual desire.

Fan service alongside a good story with likeable or lovable characters is a great marketing tool for merchandise and such. If it adds to the merchandise sales, it adds to the show's profits which adds to the chance we'll see more seasons, ovas, movies and specials. I enjoy fan service in the cases mentioned above. High School DxD is an example of good use of fan service.

If a show has neither a good story nor likeable or lovable characters fan service comes off as desperate or wasted. Daimadaler pretty much is an example of overuse of unnecessary fan service.

It's never bothered me tbh. If it's used right, it can create some absolutely hilarious points in an anime. If used wrong, it starts to take over the plot, which is never good

I love it, it adds alot of comedy especially in something like Highschool of the Dead and Rosario + Vampire there are alot of scenes that cracks me up because of it. Also no matter how many panty shots I have seen in Rosario + Vampire but it still amuses me

personally I don't like fan service but I can watch a series that has it, just not to much. Sometimes it ruins a series for me, like NGNL dropped after first ep, some times it dosen't for me like SAO. But I also think some people think something is fan service that is not. having a carecter have big breast is not a problem, if all the carecters have big breast then its a problem
