It depends on how frequently it's used. If it only appears every now and again then fair enough, but if the show relies on it to keep the viewer's attention it starts to lose me because it often means it's being used to make up for the boring characters or plot. I also prefer it to be done in a more tasteful way than 'Oops he tripped and fell on her boobies, that's not scraping the bottom of the barrel or anything'.

I'm fine with fan-service as long as it isn't forced for the sake of fan-service, though I suppose most fan-service is ham-fisted in some way, so I just voided my own argument before I could end the sentence.

I hate ham-fisted fan-service.

loooove it. sry if you don't. funny how most of those who hate sex/love and decry fan service are the sociopaths who revel in gratuitous violence, gore and scream bloody murder when they dare censor that. fact is the world would be a better place with more sex and less violence. but the us is the place where children are exposed to horrific levels of violence on tv daily yet all things sex are forbidden. and as a result the us is the place where children commit massacres.

Fan Service is not always necessary, of course i'm talking about eechi fan service. But i love it, yes even shows like Rosario + Vampire where it is basically all fan service. In all honesty i could see why girls get upset about that kind of stuff, but if you actually know what genre watching and by just looking at the picture next to the description, you should know what your getting into. So there really is no need for people complaining about it, it's like saying you watch hentai for the plot, and i have people tell me that they actually do watch hental for the plot so it's not something far-fetched. To be clear though it really all comes down to your preference, if you don't like that stuff for whatever reason than so be it. Like for me i hate akame ga kill,(the manga) because of how much unnecessary rape there is i hate rape period, but akame ga kill is one of the worst.

A little bit is fine, but if it gets excessive (EG: Swimsuit scene in Akame ga Kill - I quite like that anime apart from it's ending [which everyone hates], but that scene is simply disgusting) it's just annoying.

They keep some anime running. It's not like everyone can crowdfund their own anime or isn't it?

I guess it's fine, always better if it's integrated to story telling.

It only bothers me if the series has nothing else going for it, or if it's forced in to the point of absurdity.

You can get a sense of a fair number of shows and whether or how fan service heavy a show just from the opening. Shows that are fan service heavy exist because a viable number of people want them to exist and enjoy them. Taking out the fan service of the ecchi/yaoi/yuri genres is like taking the guns out of a First Person Shooter. If you like fanservice go for it, if you don't, they are pretty easy to avoid and there are plenty of alternatives.

Well I don't mind it in some manga like Gamma, there it fits in well. But there are times when it gets plain annoying. Case in point being every generic Harem anime ever made which feels the need to shove in fanservice every five minutes in order to keep peoples attention. It's one of the reasons I avoid the genre.

Ignore it, desensitized by it as its a part of mainstream culture now.

I have never been a fan of it, specially because most fanservice isn't targeted to me in the first place. But I used to tolerate it to a certain point if the anime had enough good points to overcome the fanservice. Lately, however, given that it is so common, often excesive or ridiculous, and sometimes even ofensive, my tolerance for it has been decreasing and nowadays it would be more precise to say that I can't stand it. Because of that I avoid to watch shows that I know that they have much fanservice. Unfortunately you just can't avoid it completely because it is too prevalent and always exist the possibility that a fanservice scene appear when you expect it the least...

Personally, I don't really care. If an anime wants to shove in some fan service then so be it.
