Was talking about the game on my crunchyroll group then i figured i might as well post a review about it so here is it.

Good Points

Manual Dismember ( Might be called differently ). In GE, and MH, to cut off a certain part you have to whack that place a lot with the correct way in correct position, and sometime they die before the body part broke, i HATE IT. Lucky for you, Freedom War allow you to just lock on to a body part, stick to it with the eh ... thorn thingy ( not sure what it will be called in English ), and start cutting it apart using your small sword as a chain saw. Prefer other weapons ? No problem, later on you will get this item that will allow to manual dismember baddie's body part even if you prefer to play as full on gunner by equipping say bazooka and sniper rifle instead.

Manual Tripping ( Might be called differently ). Once again, In GE and MH, you have to damage the baddie bad enough and only then they will fall down, stay defenseless for a few second while you proceed to use your strong attacks or just spam attacks. But now, you can manually do it. Just lock on to the baddie's body part, throw your thorn at it and start mashing the pull button, if you managed to pull it long enough without getting attacked by the abductors or enemy prisoners, the abductor will fall down and your team can proceed to whack it ( there will be a circle that shows your progress )

Stick to the wall : I am not sure if sticking to the wall and shoot enemy abductor with your submachine gun to death is a viable strategy but you can do it nevertheless.

PvP : Yep, there will be PvP ... in later patch i believe. But there are already a few mission objectives with pvp in mind such as good old CAPTURE THE DAMN flag, kill the enemy team until they run out of revive points, escort the friendly abductors before enemy could murder them( monsters / Aragami equivalent ), or saving more citiziens from baddies before the other team do but with really clunky controls i would say pvp won't be that enjoyable unless you are used to the control schemes.

Many Ranged weapon type : MH had tons of melee weapon type, GE have 3 melee and a lot of customizable bullet with 3 ranged type. Well FW have 3 melee weapon, and ranged weaponry types that are probably reserved for battlefield series, submachinegun, assault rifles, heavy machinegun, sniper rifle, RPG, grenade launcher, flame throwers and chain gun. Oh wait but there is more way to murder the ever loving tar out of the damnable enemy abductor, prisoners and accessories ( your android warden/servant/partner in battle ). You can toss grenade at them, flash bang them, plant a land mine and laugh like a evil villain while they got blown up, plant sticky grenade on them, plant a turret and let them do the killing for you while you do your own thing like dragging an abductor down or dismembering that body part.

Voice customization : It might not be a plus for you but it's a plus for me, since hearing your accessory say Yes, my master in her strangely alluring soulless voice is nice. ( You have to customize that line ) Since the game actually got a decent voice synthesizer and actually allow English input. I can imagine some girls / black butler fangirl might use a male accessory and let their male accessory say Yes, My lord or something like that. I tried a few other english sentence before but i like most of the default Japanese response except for a few that i changed.

The Cons

AI : I feel like the dev didn't find a good balance between perfect plays and just stay there and let baddies murder you. Your team mates will die a lot because their usual behavior is just stay near the enemy abductors and get hit by whatever slow wind up attack they pull off unless you manually order your team to spread out. Meanwhile the enemy ai just keep getting smarter and better as the mission level goes up. How hard the ai become at the hardest level or Divine Punishment missions? The enemy prisoners actually become the baddie you should be scared of rather than their state of art abductors, shoot sniper rifle at the enemy from afar, and they will get superhuman reflex that dodge that bullet the moment you fired it. Close ranged combat fight, they know exactly where to dodge. A japanese player actually posted his gameplay on a website to complain about it, i thought it is not serious until i actually play it, and yes, it is really really hard because if you are not in cover ( i never had to used until i tried out Divine Punishment mission ), you will die from all the bullets the enemy prisoners throw at you and they are really accurate. You know a game is a Nintendo hard when the minor annoyance mobs become physical gods while your ally drop like fly that I acutally stop bothering to revive them in fights and usually just do the objectives as fast as i can but wait, you have to revive your accesory because the abductors might abduct it and you have to spend a few mission with a normal accessory model that you see while shopping around. Althought it can alleviated a bit by microing your ally with commands.

Abductors
In GE, there is eh i believe 10 or 11 ( forgot ) base aragami with a few variational between them. For Freedom Wars ... eh if i have to say it, 8 base model with different weapon equipped on them. [ Humanoid, 4 Legged ( Centaur ), No Arms ( Rabbit ), Tiger, Spider, Dragon, Chain monster ] Through they are extremely versatile because each abductors tend to be equipped with different weapon parts that they will primarily use until you dismember the body part or the weapon, then the abductors will all look pretty similar with same attacks. Through in higher difficulty they do tend to come up with new harder to dodge attacks.

Controls
They are pretty clunky in my opinion but well it is the same case for both MH and GE so if you are new player to the hunter genre, prefer thy fingers.

Crafting
This is the only single player game that i had seen so far with those annoying F2P time wasting crafting mechanics. To fight bosses properly later on, you need a good wepaon which mean no bad weapon traits, no useless weapon trait, and strong solid good weapon trait setup, but sadly for you, to get a good weapon, you need to fuse weapons to combine their trait, after weapon is fused, you might get traits from the two weapon, random trait that pop out of nowhere, or traits that are for other weapon type. Save scumming isn't possible because the game will save itself whenever you do any kind of crafting and whenever you are crafting, it take about 10-20 minute from what i have seen.

TL:DR

You can manually dismember body parts.
You can manually trip the enemy abductors.
PVP ( in 1.10 patch )
All kinds of guns and modern weaponry ( Extremely customizable with weapon traits too )
Customize your android's response to your commands ( Yes, master ! )
Ally ai are retards who constantly require saving ( through they can dish out good damage )
Late game enemy sinner AI are aimbots and dodge your bullet like shonen protagonists.
Enemy abductors are pretty much the same except they are equipped with different weapons, once you disemember the weapons, they fight exactly the same way.
4 Control Schemes, but each schemes have their weakness. ( I use hunter control scheme which is similar to GE, but make it hard to aim and shoot your weapon ( no sniping for me ) )
Crafting is RNG and luck based.

ehh i mean.......why did i read this >_> i mean i haven't played it so i can't defend anything within the game. One thing i'll say is that In God eater the AI was TOO good, and made every mission way to easy until you got to the missions where you had to solo.
as far as the "easy-tricks" in Future wars that you mentioned we live in a world where everybody wants the easy way and doesn't wanna work for it. I read a article that the reduced the difficulty of this game because people were complaining?
I just need to play a demo for myself to judge it, I REALLY want to buy it and hope it does well to boost Vita sales. Other than this game i can't think of ANYTHING for the vita or 3ds that i'm even remotely interested in or waiting for.

Don't let my review get you down i guess. I mean i brought the game even through i heard that it is pretty average and i enjoyed it, but like i said, it is just an average and got it's fair share of bad points and good points. In the end, i guess it is up to you to decide if the game is worth your money. I am just pointting out it's good point and bad points.

Well Patch 1.2 just recently came out of chinese version, which add PvP content to it. Since Chinese version is basically western version execpt with Chinese language. I figured players will probably be able to PvP as soon as it is released here. Just throwing it out there
