Why is football so important to American high schools? That's like asking why air is important for our lungs. It's part of our culture. I mean, yeah, it depends on what region of America you come from, but for the most part it is football. It's a spectacle.

Personally, I love the strategy aspect of it. I love the fight for points. It's tougher to score points in football then it is in basketball. I also find it to be more thrilling than baseball.

As with a lot of things in high school, a large part of the popularity of football is the experience. The promise of money and fame later on in life, too. But it's about the love of the game, first and foremost. Otherwise there'd never be any money to be made if no one loved the game.

I wanna see a high school where not a single student decides to sign up or attend some kind of sport. I wonder what would happen then.

I'm curious too. If a high school decided to not have any sports and only academics along with some clubs, how good will it do?

^Pretty much that, I found it boring and went immediately back to my old school.

I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the lack of sports but they seem to expect you to use that extra time that would have went to sports related events on MORE mandatory homework. The purpose of homework is to speed learning with repetition but why would you need more of it in a school filled with the fastest learners in the state? The least they could do is make it optional.

why its important?, this is part of the american dream (or not so american) that was sold (or forced) to every1 in latin america, north america, europe, (asia and africa, they workin on it) and oceania , you see they made this system to make people "happy" consumers and give us the " the capitalism way of life", this is just part of the bread and circus cycle they carved into society to make us (docile?, predictable?), yea lets go ahead with our dear hollywood, football , religion, bank account , nba finals , cars, disco and drugs.. oohh lets not forget our dear ebola from whom have died over 5 thousand till now!, oh i forgot everyday 24k people starve to death.

ps: i cant confirm the veracity of anything i posted but also neither your story books or news channel or internet can.

btw: sry for bad english, and hope u enjoy my limited (personal??) view of (reality?)

I don't like watching football. It's my least favorite sport to watch. I don't see why many ppl watch it.

It's something to do once a week. I don't care for the sport. Am more of a soccer and hockey fan but I do like the event of it. It's just become so ingrained into American culture, like regular football in Europe and South America or baseball in the Caribbean (which sadly used to be our No 1. sport).

I really hated the football team when I was in high school. After every one of our marching show the football players would literally run on the field before we had a chance to be done. They would say things like "Get the f*ck off our field" "Get going little babies" and stuff like that. Like at least have the courtesy to give us time to get off the field. It just pisses me off thinking about it... luckily my old high school got new couches and don't put up with that crap.

In high school I just used the football games as an excuse to bring friends together and eat chicken wings.
