I like both of them, and I tend to go back and forth between which one I read a lot of. Right now I'm in a space opera stint. I keep trying to get myself to read other things, but I inevitably go back and start another one. I have a lot of fantasy that needs to be read but I just can't get myself to start them.

I'm sure in another couple months I'll be back into fantasy again though, and won't be able to get through any sci-fi. It's just how I am. So I couldn't live without either.

I lean more towards the fantasy side. Mainly because I'm not overly fond of mecha animes.
But I don't mind shows like Dr. Who, Star Trek, Fringe, etc.

It depends really. I like some of both.

Technically due to the loose definition of Fantasy you can make an argument that Sci-fi is a part of Fantasy, hence why many fans of either call it SFF. Putting that useless bit of info aside I would say I put the two on near equal footing but lean towards Fantasy.

Those are my two favorite genres, I cannot possibly choose one over the other.

I like both, quite a bit. I used to be a hardcore fantasy fan, and hated sci-fi with a passion, until I gave the more speculative sci-fi stuff a chance and enjoyed it immensely. At this stage, I wouldn't be able to choose between them.

However, I'd take gothic fiction or urban fantasy over either of them "traditionally" any day, as I feel like those two subgenres are particularly good at mixing what I like from each.

Definately Sci-Fi, I like the Technobabble (As long as it makes sense) While I don't mind a good fantasy, I think that it's too easy to go overboard in a fantasy show. Which is why I love Sci-Fi/fantasy, not too many rules, but not too much freedom in writing. But if I had to choose, it'd be Sci-Fi, and classic Sci-Fi at that.

A mix of both is great, one of my favorite RPG series does this. Star Ocean.

Would love it if more things like that existed.

Sci-fi.
I like fantasy elements when they're used in a contemporary story (I'm thinking of stuff like Buffy), but straight-up fantasy almost never works for me.

i'd say both, but i prefer sci-fi over fantasy, because sometimes sci-fi writers include a reason why this is possible or something --its just more interesting to read than fantasy

I grew up reading 90% fantasy, but as a writer I'm shooting for Sci Fi. It's far, far more difficult.
