you have to watch the anime because the movie is a continuation of the anime, i really rate the anime as a 7 at most but thats my opinion, man sometimes i think the anime was made for the purpose of introducing the movie

you have to watch the anime first, then the movie

Ah thanks. I was thinking they were the same title but the anime is called The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya instead, I've just learned.

before you start the anime (if you are going to watch it), theres two ways of watching it, in chronological order and in broadcast order, one follows the story date by date, the other one the way it was broadcasted in tv and it was in a messed up way, skipping episodes, then going back to the first, etc.... (crunchyroll had the broadcast order), my recommendation is to watch it in a broadcast order because the finale has a greater impact, but ill leave it to you. you will find many forums regarding the topic and different opinions

Oh god this is the Firefly fiasco all over again.

I'll go with Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro. (Worth mentioning that it's the first film that Miyazaki directed. Made before Studio Ghibli was founded. I recommend it if you're a Ghibli fan)

Other good Lupin films:
-The Fuma Conspiracy
-The Secret of Mamo
-The Gold of Babylon

Others:
-Sword of the Stranger
-Akira
-The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
-One Piece: Film Z

I would like to ask you all a simple question: What is/are your favorite anime movie/movies?

I recently just purchased the Studio Ghibli 17 Movie Collection with Classics such as Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Castle In The Sky, etc. I would like to know what other have seen and what others believe to be noteworthy.

I'll start off with one of my all time favorites: Summer Wars

Please state the title! A picture is fine as well. Description is up to you.

That's not a legitimate copy, most of the reviews I've seen are saying it's a Malaysian bootleg.

Yeah it seemed a little strange to me since I hadn't heard of it before and it just doesn't seem like something Studio Ghibli would release. Especially not for that cheap. I guess the obvious giveaway is that Disney usually distributes Ghibli titles in English and this is certainly not theirs. Looks like you are right.

As far as non Ghibli films, I was not a huge fan of Summer Wars, but Mamoru Hosoda's other works are incredible. Specifically,
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

And Wolf Children

Wolf Children was one of the best movies I've ever seen. It was just as good if not better than a Ghibli film. I highly recommend it to everyone.

I definately agree, I adore wolf children probably my favorite anime movie and I really enjoyed the girl who leapt through time, but summers was pretty meh it was alright but is nowhere near as good as the other 2 in my mind.

The disappearance of haruhi suzimiya is incredible especially compared to the series proceeding it, it was ranked highly in my top 10 and probably still in it. I was pretty meh on the series but this movie was fantastic,

Ghost in the shell- Watched it recently and enjoyed it at the time, but its one of those movies where it is better restropectively and it gets better in my mind and I hold it in higher regard than I did immediately after watching it.

Ghibili are not on my list- Since I've only seen two (monoke and the wind rises) and was not blown away they were good, but I feel like I fell into the hype trap were everyone said they were incredible and I expected to much unobtainable so especially monoke.
