finished White Album 2. Meh, characters were shallow. The only good part was discovering the backstory of Touma's love through playing through the window.

Huge fan of Golden Time and also just finished watching it recently [this past weekend]. It was touching and got lots of feels from it for sure. I group it in the same ball park as Toradora but maybe having a more grown up feel [makes sense since they are college versus Toradora High School].

To me the all time winner for feels is Clannad though. My tear ducts got such major workouts during that series.

Koko. Does. Not. Love. Banri.

The thing is, Koko's love for banri changes a lot, just as much as Bnri's love for Koko changes. multiple times in fact.

At first, I believe Koko loves banri for the sake of saving herself from grieving a way of loving that was suddenly torn from her. While at first it seems childish and self serving, Banri's confrontational personality makes her realize there is so much more to love than what she was allowing herself to experience. (the yes/no fan scene where he says they cant be friends)

She realizes slowly throughout the series that she can worry less and less about her outwards appearance and insecurity as a girlfriend (which is self serving in nature-- google "seeking approval whore") to a deeper love where she cares more about being with banri for the sake of being with him.

I have seen a few episodes of toradora, which i intend to finish this weekend. I also heard traumatic things about "School Days"...

While I am a fan of romance and drama, I also am kind of curious if there have been other series that are more down to earth like Golden Time that focus on other motifs and themes rather than just romance... If you know any, please suggest some!

Yes, definitely i can agree with in red. This is one aspect that really bugged me for the entire series, and towards the end i just couldn't believe the love she had for Banri. I can also agree that she grew to care for him and liked spending time with him, but i always just saw that as friendship instead of romance. Then again, there is love and caring between two people who are friends either way.

Since you are a fan of romance/drama, i really liked, "Say, I Love You" if you haven't seen it.

Cmon now... She didn't REALLY love him until maybe after the moment in his apartment when he explained his condition and she was sobbing in the dark corner... After that, it was pretty much stay or quit mentality. I truly believe she committed and loved him after that.

Also, Just sparknotez school days.. holy cow. I thought it was a joke. A really sick, messed up joke. Good thing I skipped it.

Onwards to.... Clannad! (still queued toradora)

Haha, well at least your not one of those people who automatically thinks she loves him at the chase scene. But yeah, she committed to him, but i still questioned her genuine feelings because it wasn't shown to me in a believable way.

Nah, check out School Days. The decisions and characters will interest you.

I'm sorry, but to your suggestion to follow through with School Days....

After reading the full synopsis ( purposeful spoiling of the series for myself ) I most definitely will not torture myself with that crazy shit.

And is your avatar Mizore from Rosario+Vampire? She was my favorite. I was most attracted to her.

Well.... As was mentioned before it was a complicated love. Yeah it was shallow at first because she was needy and didn't like feeling alone so she more or less latched on to Banri to help save herself from that, but Banri knew all that. The thing with Koko is that she never really knew what love was, so during the whole series it was like her fumbling through her own feelings to realize what it was and to actually love him. Another aspect of their relationship was the fact and fears both of them had about Banri memory loss and how it would effect them if/when it returned, so that also made both Banri and Koko kinda standoffish in the relationship.

Also remember one of Banri's motivation to go to university was to find love. So he was receptive for a romance with Koko then discovering the photo of Linda and Him suddenly was he not only emotionally involved with Koko but then he suddenly had to go back and examine a life he wanted to walk completely away from. I think of this as a romantic square situation. Picture a square. In the upper left corner put the old Banri. Upper right the new Banri. Opposite new Banri put Koko and opposite old Banri put Linda. Now draw the following lines and relationships.

Banri (O)--------->Banri (n) (He was trying to reach the new Banri.)
Banri (O)<-------->Linda (Relationship was by both.)
Banri (O)_______Koko (Nothing)

Banri (N)_______Banri (o) (nothing)
Banri (N)<--------->Koko (Relationship was by both.)
Banri (N)<---------?Linda (Linda was involved, but he was unsure of his own relationship)

Linda <----------->Koko (Both was a friend to the other.)

Now for each of the above besides the emotional investment each character has for the other (or the lack there of) you add a new twist to it.

Banri (O): to awaken Banri (n)'s old memories and emotions (overt), but rage at the new Banri (subtle).
Banri (N)'s twist is a fear of disappearing completely if the old memories comes back. He LIKES who he is now. But he is also plagued by a subtle guilt complex over how he is treating both Koko and Linda.
Linda's twist is acceptance of the new Banri, but her subtle twist is guilt over not giving the old Banri an answer, but also not arriving in time to save Banri from the accident.
Koko is the most straight forward in that she is motivated by fear at first. Fear of being completely alone. The twist is that if she has a choice of being alone or with someone who only is after her money or looks she CAN be alone.

What I really liked about Golden Time was that all the characters evolved and changed over the life of the series. From the simple dye of the hair by Yana-san to the more complex blooming of the woman known as Koko Kaga into a complete person that can stand on her own 2 feet. All the main characters changed and evolved and even the secondary ones such as 2D-Kun does too.

On the question if it was Linda that hit him on the Moped the first flashbacks to the accident the moped rider is so generic it can be anybody. But if I recall correctly in his most vivid flashback it turned out to be a fat dude on the moped. I think they wanted people to think it was Linda on the moped, but she was guilt ridden over being late and, perhaps, the first to find Banri.

Wow that was a lot more than I really wanted to write. So some imagines to go out on.
