The stock answer to every situation in life. It's like when a kid asks their parent why the sky is blue, or why that woman's belly is big. "...Because. That's why". Doesn't answer anything.

My issue with "Just be yourself" is we're told to be our self, but when we are, 95% of the time we're either ridiculed, cast out, bullied, harassed, or put down for it. People in our realm especially have this problem. Most of the time, we're not as popular or received as the person who's more willing to be a clone and not a unique individual, i.e. them self but not them self.

Be yourself is just code for "Be like everyone else, just with a different name and body" if you ask me. Be yourself, but not different.

I truly do believe people should be them self, just not in the sense this phrase is usually used in. Be yourself in that you couldn't give a flying tonkatsu what the next guy thinks, or the one after. Popular opinion matters not. What are you going to be seen as? Gay for liking fashion? A loser for liking anime or gaming? How about stupid for having a hard time reading? A weirdo for liking another country's culture? "Just be yourself, so then I can put you down".

We're not able to really be ourselves because society has clamped us down so much. But enough from me...

What say you?

We are only ever ourselves. Our fears and and our doubts and our insecurities may over or underwhelm our confidences, beliefs, and trusts, but we are all just people. It is all just terrifying words, there is no inevitable outcome to resolve ourselves to.

Don't you think that's a little simplistic? To tell people not to be affected by peoples' reactions to them just because everybody's different, but to never hold anyone accountable for succumbing to such feelings.

This will make you lonely in the end.

At the end of the day right and wrong are just projections of our own perception on the world around us. Hell, color is an illusion (we only see in 3 color frequencies for cripes' sake.)

As long as you can wake up and look at yourself in the mirror you're doing what you're "supposed" to be doing.

This will make you a lonely man. And you will be fine with it, to an extent.

Perhaps, but loneliness has its merits, too. Nothing that exists in this universe is without merit.

This is it, this is chunch!

A shared view on loneliness that is unattainable by two individuals who do not disagree.

For all the people I know, I feel less lonely in this second.

We have been ourselves, we have generally agreed that it is simplistic and necessary, we appreciate the same things.

But you are you and I am me, so it's definitely not the same thing.

This is it, this is chunch.

Worrying about how your gonna display yourself the next day is only gonna force you to present yourself more differently than you actually are. Just go with the day and love others. You're always gonna be influenced by your surroundings and you're constantly learning something. I'd say what really defines you is how you react to things.

Societal ridicule I find is mostly a good thing. It offers nothing more than the opportunity for self-improvement. You sometimes accept some criticism as legitimate and improve upon deeper thought. And the rest you reject and/or rebut, making others reconsider their own positions. And if they themselves are too stubborn to listen to you, then fuck em.

I've been myself all my life, and I frankly don't about what people and society think about me. That being said I've found kindered spirits who are themselves and they are great people that I can call my friends. Let society think what it want, I'm not going to let let social norms and or trends dictate who I should be.

"Just be yourself," should be changed to: "Just be a good person."
Otherwise, you're giving excuses for people to be terrible to one another.

I am generally always myself around people.
Unless the situation calls for stoicism or professionalism.
I am civil even to those I dislike.

In short, I don't really give a damn what people think.
