So I recently finished the Wheel of Time series and thought that the ending was a bit less than what I was expecting. I mean glad that the Dark One got a better seal on his prison using his own power against him and all but not understanding exactly what happened to Rand. I mean what exactly has he become? I don't know maybe it's just me.

Honestly, I was pretty disappointed as well. The entire book felt rushed in the important parts and slow in the rest.

So, we know that Rand would have a funeral (based on the earlier prophecy about the women surrounding his body), and he traded bodies at the end, so he both had the funeral and survived. During that process and the battles (training?) he fought with the Dark One, it seems he gained the ability to directly change the Pattern (creating items and such, rather than using the One Power or True Power to do things). A bit odd, to be sure.

It's been a while since I read the last book, but I remember being annoyed by Rand at the end. It seemed like he was thinking "gee, I guess I'll go off on my own, I wonder which of my harem will find me first", which was just rude. But again, it's been a while, maybe I read that part wrong.

Let me tell you a little story...

I waited years to finish buying the books (my parents would only buy books on sale) and when I finally had all 11 (as it was initially intended to be + prequel), I demolished the series in a week. Of course, that's when I found out the author had passed and the series would be finished using the manuscripts and notes he left behind.

It was supposed to be 11, then 12, then 13, and finally, 14 books and a prequel.

I used to think my frustration and impatience was what made the ending seem so bad, but in the end, I think that it's simply because it wasn't finished by the author himself and thus, may not reflect his intentions entirely (I mean, using his notes is all well and good, but a good writer has more notes in his mind, I'm sure). Not to mention, the last 3 books were all published within four years, whereas before, the series had an average 3 years gap between each book.

Anyway, the story is still good, the ending is just a bit sloppy, but I blame whoever finished it without putting their heart fully into it
