Everytime.

It is why emoticons are sometimes useful.

I have a particularly dry and sarcastic sense of humor so not only does this happen to me online, but IRL as well.

well of course, but it's too much effort to correct a misunderstanding

besides what i really meant was probably far worse than what they thought i meant

Do you know that when people type LOL they're not LOL?

LOL.

LMAO

(I'm really not even laughing )

ROFLMAO

(not even moving... except fingers on the keyboard)

....Bruhhh I'm dead.

(Still alive)

Sometimes I type something like "the smell is killing me" I get a response like "then why aren't you dead already"

Man I hate that.

I miss sarcasm/subtext/undertones in face-to-face conversation as well, so the only difference online is that I can read whatever was written multiple times to try to figure it out rather than having to respond immediately.

I don't understand the tone of this post. Why does Lala talk about Lala in third person? Could Lala please make more sense?

Sarcasm seems to be lost in translation on the internet. There is nothing like an actual face to convey dripping sarcasm in all it's glory.

It used to happen to me a lot and it still happens but I take steps to avoid it as much as possible now. Emoticons are your friend.

This can happen with talking face to face with people who have different accents that you're not used to. Where my cousin lives, it seems as if they're always asking questions when they're in fact making statements. That's just how their accent is.

Emoticons help a lot. I feel like I'm misunderstood in person, so even online it is difficult.
