I'm interested in knowing your experience with re-watching anime. Was it better the second time? or was it worse? same?

With me it has been mixed. I recently re-watched Death Note, and I was surprised to find myself enjoying it just as much as the first time I watched it. I was kind of expecting it to be less exciting, since I already knew everything that was going to happen. I actually felt like I enjoyed it more since I wasn't preoccupied with what was going to happen next. On the other hand I also re-watched Attack on Titan and I had the opposite experience. For me, AoT was one of the most thrilling and exciting anime the first time I watched it. But on the second viewing I felt like it lost something. I think its the fact that many of the episodes ended with those insane cliffhangers, and they don't have the same effect when you see them a second time.

So how about you guys?

I've only re-watched two animes.

-Ouran High School Host Club. It's always awesome. I'll always love it. I only skip the one episode where its supposed to be a "Alice in Wonderland" themed episode cause its boring. Otherwise its all <3333 for me.

-Paradise Kiss. My all time favorite anime/manga. Tear up every time. ALL THEM FEELS.

Otherwise, I haven't really ran into any anime that I've felt I enjoyed to the point where I HAD to watch it again .-.

It depends on the show of course, but most of the time when I'm inclined to re-visit a show, I tend to like it just as much as I did when I first saw it. There are exceptions of course, generally on some older series. Love Hina can be hard to go back to at this point even though I loved it when I first saw it. But there are a lot of shows I like to revisit and do multiple times. Full Metal Panic, FLCL, Cowboy Bebop, One Piece (not on a whole but arcs), Bunny Drop, Ouran High School Host Club, Baccano!, Code Geass, Eureka Seven, Ghost Hunt, Rahxephon, & Twelve Kingdoms are all shows I've gone back and re-watched. Right now I'm even in the middle of re-watching Darker than Black, which is probably my 4th time seeing the series since it first aired.

And some shows tend to be better on 2nd viewings like Evangelion and I expect my re-watch of Penguindrum will allow me to notice more.

If I love the series I will rewatch it multiple times, although not always entirely. I have watched Eureka Seven, Code Geass, Gundam 00/Seed, Outlaw Star, Ouran High School Host Club, and Oreimo atleast twice (some three to four times). There are always new things that stick out to me it seems; analyzing something again gives me a chance to view things from a different perspective, I usually get hung up on a character or two and try to perceive the series through their eyes, so this gives me a chance to try multiple angles.

My favorite anime I have rewatched is probably Ruroni Kenshin, I was younger when I watched it so watching it again when I got older really added the appreciation for how awesome it truly is.

If I love something I will re-watch sure as sure. The best reactions I got from re-watching a show were from Little Busters...it was more tragic AND rewarding the second time through. I've watched The Future Diary enough that I am convinced Yuno Gasai is actually fairly sane. Everything else has been about as enjoyable the second time around...but I am weird with my ability to watch things repetitively.

Almost everything. HxH, FMA, FMA:B. I'm going to try and rewatch Naruto and rekindle my interest in time for the ending.

Before I got into other anime, I rewatched Dragonball 3 times and DBZ no less than 5 times. I'd do it again even. There's just something about it that makes it so rewatchable.... It might be simply because there are so many episodes that by the time you've reached the end, the beginning feels like it happened a lifetime ago. Timeskips have that effect, I guess.

I've watched a lot of other series now, but it's always the ones that aren't about the plot-twists that make me want to watch them again. Its the ones that are about the journey. The little moments in each episode that make them memorable, not the one big moment that changed everything.

For example, I loved Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, but I don't think I'd re-watch it anytime soon. Why? It's a show that is built upon plot-twists, same with Code Geass. Once those are gone, theres not much desire left to watch it again, in my opinion.

But the shows that are built off of friendships, like Clannad or Gurren Lagann or Sword Art, or even Avatar:TLA, those are the shows I'll rewatch for eternity.

Just my two-cents.

I watched High School of the dead twice only because my sister wanted me to watch with her.

Other than that, I've only re-watched certain arcs from Naruto and One Piece.

I never watch a series twice.

I've noticed on CR forums and others alike that it seems as though it's actually fairly common to NOT rewatch shows, or at least not for a long time, and to me, that seems very strange, rewatching something is like 2nd nature to me. I once saw an argument about clannad on a CR forum on how OP didn't like it, and some other guy replied with something along the lines of "you cant rush through it like that, you should try rewatching it in maybe another ten years or something". Naturally my response was something like this:

seriously? ten years!?

I for one LOVE to rewatch a show if I liked it enough(perhaps do I have to much time on my hands?), at one time or another I've probably rewatched at least 1/2 of all shows I've watched. I've even taken the liberty of counting the # of times for certain shows if I loved them enough, here's a few to name:

clannad-9 times
every other key show- around 4 times(I know I'm a key freak XD)
brotherhood-3 times
anohana-4 times
k-on-4 times
madoka-6 times
future diary-4 times
fate/zero-3 times
toradora- 6 times
angel beats-you probably don't wanna know......it's 17

to put this amount of rewatches into a time comparison, I've only been watching anime, at least in a more prominent and active way, for about 3 years now, so to be honest i'm not really sure at this point if I have way to much time on my hands, or I'm just insane in the eyes of fellow otaku.

Am I?

There's 2 reasons I'll rewatch an anime.
1. I saw it so long ago I can't even remember if it was as good as I thought it was
2. I'm watch it again with someone else who hasn't seen it

I'm only going to focus on #1, because #2 was me knowing an anime was good and showing it to my friends

I rewatched:
NANA - yup still good
Kemonozume - yup still good
Ouran Highschool Host Club - not as a good as I thought it was
Lovely Complex - now that I'm past high school I really wish I paid more attention to this anime
Samurai Champloo - yup still good

-I've rewatched Yamato: 2199 multiple times. enjoy it as much if not more each time I watch it, there's always something I pick up or notice each watch through.

2 others I try to rewatch are RahXephon and Scrapped Princess, and enjoy both of them each time I watch. For RahXephon I try to keep track of all the clues they drop before the big reveal of Haruka's true identity, (There are quite a few). Scrapped Princess I just enjoy the Family aspect that Shannon, Raquel and Pacifica have.
