Why is there so much blood in recent anime?
Posted 10/13/14 , edited 10/13/14
Tokyo Ghoul is my complaint, Tokyo Ghoul in the manga doesn't have that much blood, the anime over exaggerated. The anime is more twisted in a sense, in the manga they leave it up to the reader to find out and to imagine what is happening, the anime takes that away.

I avoid watching really bloody anime though myself, I was a hemophobic for a short while and it sucked. Now I'm better mostly, but I still can't watch too much, like attack on titan is where I draw the line. I was having mini panic attacks watching kill la kill, but I toughed it out

Why isn't there enough blood in anime recently? Come on it's October! Time to be spooked!

BLood sells (no pun intended).

It's like before, you'd only see one or two loli shows... girls are drawn like normal human girls, but nowadays we're littered with those sparkly eyed my little pony things. whatever sells will get more products made. demand = supply.

You may be annoyed by the blood, I'm annoyed by the censor lines. Honestly I feel if an anime is going to contain a good plot and characters, having gore won't detract from that. The reason they make it bloody is because that's one of the only ways they know they'll get any views. They're not forfitting one for the other, they're making one because they can't make the other. Honestly if a character dies and we either A. See the dead body in its bloody glory or B. See nothing, that makes literally no difference to the plot or character development whatsoever. Frankly I'm all for shows with more mature themes, there are far more shows without blood than with it so I don't really think you have all that strong of a case. If you don't like it why don't you watch one of the 40-odd shows this season that don't have that in? My choices are severely limited due to all the moe-fanservice riddled stuff, but you don't hear me complaining. Seriously I don't get what you're on about when there are so few gory anime this season in contrast to shows that don't have a drop of blood. What you're essentially saying is you don't think there should be any gory shows given how few of them exist, and I'm sorry but saying 'this choice shouldn't exist for those who want it' is only inviting yourself to a bad time. Frankly I find all the repetition of slipping onto girls and grabbing their boobs only to be slapped in the face, or sexualising little girls to be a far bigger and more prevalent issue, but they haven't gone away. So what do I do? That's right, I don't watch those shows. If I can do it, so can you.

I don't know. That's kind of weird since I've noticed a lot of exceptionally gory shows don't always do well in Japan. You know, those shows that do well in America instead.....Deadman Wonderland, Claymore, Elfen lied, etc. Shows are more gory in terms of actual blood now though, than they were 10 years ago.

HOWEVER, this is only based of the amount of shows. There have always been crazy gory shows. Fist of the Northstar? I feel like people used to 'explode' a lot more often in anime than they do now. Now days, the blood just looks prettier than it used to.

On a side note, one thing I hate is when shows censor blood by making it black (school days). WHY? I know it's blood already. What are you doing?

Going all Hitchcock era film making and using chocolate syrup for blood?

I hate to sound so cynical, but it is the times we live in. Edginess turns a profit, and where there is money to be made, there will be product that sells that. Twenty years ago Japan might have been the place to go for mature-themed animation, now its nothing new and its everywhere. It doesn't bother me so much like it might have once did, I got used to it I guess. Sometimes we need blood to convey a sense of mortality for dramatic effect, etc. To that end its but a detail, one would hope.~

Hopefully this will be a short rant;

I watch the first episode of everything and it seems to me a lot of these average anime are pointlessly adding in gore for no good reason. It's like they want their audience to take them seriously so they add some blood splatter to a sword swing. If you want me to take your show seriously, give me a compelling plot and interesting characters! stop doing all this stupid gimiky stuff, it's an embarrassment to the entertainment medium as a whole.

You don't need all this pointless violence, at this point it's just getting in the way. Look at Legend of Korra for an example; no blood what-so-ever and the general consensus is that it's an awesome show.

Sorry if it's a little ranty/preachy, I'm just so tired of watching another anime go down the toilet. I'm 35/41 of the way through this Fall Season's episode 1s so I might be a little angsty.

Er... It is pretty mild compared to the 80s and 90s anime, dude. It isn't that big a deal. Just stick to the good series. Blood and gore have ALWAYS been in anime. I usually ignore the useless series that have it and nothing more. It isn't that hard to find out what is worth your time in this day and age. :/

Its more responsible to paint a realistic picture and show gore than to not. I have no qualms with blood or gore and as long as it fits into the plot of the story I am okay with that.

here's an idea: stop watching anime with violence.

You won't find any blood in a RomCom.

There's just no pleasing anyone... all that needs to be said is if you dont like the show for whatever the reason then don't watch the show, plain and simple. Lol
