Caucasian agnostic

Why do you think people are atheists?
Sometimes to pursue other options, sometimes because they're more superficial and down to earth types of people and some because they don't like the stigmas that come with being religious.

What is your religion and ethnic background?
Atheist/Buddhist Asian

Are you tolerant of other religions/non-religions?
Yes

Do you condemn atheists?
No, why would I?

Do atheists have lower standards of morals?
No, morality is a shared trait between almost all humans regardless of belief

Would you knowingly associate with atheists?
Yes, is there anything wrong with that?

Should a public official/representative (E.g. president, senator, judge, etc.) announce their faith as a prerequisite for their position?
No

Is atheism a threat to society?
No, Why would it be?

Are any of your family members atheists?
Yes

Would you allow your child to be in a relationship/marry an atheist?
Yes, I don't judge through belief systems but by personality and deeds

Why do you think people are atheists?
Because they disbelieve in a god or supernatural power

Additional thoughts/comments regarding atheists?
They share common aspects with anyone else

I find that the only reason people find atheism so threatening is because of highly religious people who are bias for people who don't share the same belief. INSECURITY is what's driving them.

Why is atheism so bad? Is it because they have no god? If so that's a sad reason and is something that should not be judged against, it's the same thing as judging for the look of someone. It's not kind to treat people or look down on someone with a different belief.

What is your religion and ethnic background?
-Was raised Catholic (eww). Was Buddhist/Taoist/Zennist for quite some time. I'm probably still some permutation of those, but they aren't religions, and I don't particularly need them.

Are you tolerant of other religions/non-religions?
-Tolerant? Yes. Tolerant when confronted? No. Truth (or any deity you might believe in) certainly doesn't need YOU to get converts for it. People who try to convert others to atheism make the same fundamental mistakes as people trying to convert someone to a religion.

Do you condemn atheists?
-Not particularly. Atheists are just as loud as religious people, so it all sounds the same to my ears.

Do atheists have lower standards of morals?
-Although it has nothing to do with atheism, they most certainly can.

Would you knowingly associate with atheists?
-Sure, but I wouldn't be expecting any particularly profound conversations.

Should a public official/representative (E.g. president, senator, judge, etc.) announce their faith as a prerequisite for their position?
-No, absolutely not, and it annoys me that they do.

Is atheism a threat to society?
-Not particularly. Don't forget, religion is an antiquated path of self-development. If you're an atheist and you don't develop yourself in any moral or emotional way, that's not as good as some brainwashed kid who does charity on the weekends because they have to. Kind is kind, and useful is useful.

Are any of your family members atheists?
-Don't think so, but it's a big family.

Would you allow your child to be in a relationship/marry an atheist?
-Probably. My child would never marry someone socially/emotionally/mentally lazy or deviant, regardless of their belief system.

Why do you think people are atheists?
-There are different reasons people are atheists. Some had a bad religious experience. Some fancy themselves scientists. Some are morally lazy and/or selfish. Some simply don't buy into the status quo of religions as they have been exposed to them. That people in that last category are the ones I cheer for.

Additional thoughts/comments regarding atheists?
-I once heard somebody say that there's no such thing as an atheist. If you do not believe in a "divine force" of some type, then you believe yourself or humanity as a whole to be the most advanced and powerful entity in the universe. There are plenty of arrogant atheists just as there are plenty of arrogant religious people, so it seems to be true.

There is a caveat to atheism, of course. The universe is integrated. You look long enough, you look hard enough, you realize it is a profound system of gears, reaching beyond the current means of mathematical calculations we can come up with. No rational intelligent person can be confronted with that and say it's a colossal accident. It would take a special kind of blindness.

However, that realization does not necessarily translate directly into a religion. There is no "either, or". We can see and experience the integration, but it does not translate into a message. And it doesn't have to. Only observable mechanics (which is why I enjoyed Taoism so much), and practices of human behavior. I've never seen an atheist take this approach, they prefer so much stumbling cynicism, typically. But they are far, far closer to it than a serious religious person.
