My math teacher showed 'Spirited Away' during class in High School...I loved it! I asked my friends who watched Anime, to what shows should I start first, they recommend me 'Bleach', I'm just kept watching since....currently addict to horror genre like Berserk!

I don't really understand the difference between "choosing to watch anime" & "continuing to watch anime"...? vague. Does the "choosing" option means... you've never seen anime before... but just decided to watch it?

I saw spirited away, and chose to pursue anime further. I'm assuming that's "continuing"... since I saw it by accident. Didn't really decide to watch an anime that faithful night.

Anime was part of the Saturday morning and weekday afternoon cartoons I watched as a kid. I just kept watching Toonami and Adult Swim as I grew up because I like animation as a medium. As the number of decent animated shows decreased on television, I've had to switch to watching shows online if I want to keep watching decent animation. Now it's pretty much all anime and the random DC animated movie.

Basically, if you want animation that is intelligent and isn't a comedy, you're going to end up watching anime.
Most American animation is fairly idiotic or vulgar. If it's aimed at adults, it's going to be a vulgar comedy. DC tends to buck those trends.

Crazy as it may seem but I had thought that DBZ, Naruto, Bleach FMA & Yu Yu Hakusho were American titles and the Japanese culture had copied the American success of these shows.

I had a Netflix subscription & was bored one day and had watched FMAB and was like this is really good so I decided to watch another title that had peaked my interest.

It was about 1 1/2 years since I first started officially watching anime but I believe Desert Punk was the first true anime I have ever watched.

First anime shows I watched were Dragonball z, Yu yu hakusho and Inyuasha and anything else that came into Toonami. At first I was really young and I thought the shows were just really harsh cartoons with long plots which seem weird, but awesome to me.

I guess my description was pretty vague, so it's like this:

You either "chose" as in decide that you'd watch anime without consent from anyone, for the first time, without watching it by accident- you pick up your remote, turn the T.V on and watch it.

Now, the other option is the opposite, you either accidentally watched it and liked it or your friends forced or made you watch it and you continued ever since.

I really hope that made sense to you, I'm trying hard not to use big vocab words.

Well, Pokémon popped up on my T.V. one day, and I decided that it was something amazing and different from the other cartoons that I used to watch before it. I choose to continue to search for anime that was similar to Pokémon and eventually I found so many other anime that was even more amazing.

Your asking a question here that will give you an answer that everyone pretty much choose to watch anime thereafter watching their first anime or else they wont be here in Crunchyroll.

hello minna! My story:

I was looking for a cool wallpaper back at the end of 2008 for my computer. So I went to google and typed in 'cool guy with sword' and got a nice picture. Put it as my wallpaper, went to ourdesktops.com, showed my desktop off there. First comment: "Awesome. Bleach is awesome". Went to google, typed in bleach, downloaded last two episodes (somewhere around 190 at the time) from an *AHUM* download site which was the first google result, have been an anime addict ever since. XD

So it just kind of happened with me, basically :3

Some of us never chose to watch anime though we continued to watch it. Others chose to watch anime and continued to watch it.

I had grown up watching several titles in the 80's and 90's that I had no idea what they were. I was just enjoying the animated features available on TV at the time. Once the revelation of what they were came along, I just continued to watch them since it had been ingrained in me. So I never really chose to watch it in the first place, but I did choose to make it an interest and continue however. Now, someone with no prior experience but goes in knowing what it is chooses to watch it be it out of personal interest or just simple curiosity.

I think being forced to watch it ends up in the result of you choosing to watch it since it's not really by chance since you have the option of not sitting around to watch it.

Or rather, maybe it's an option that you are guided into watching.

Anime decided that it's my destiny to watch anime. I saw anime for the first time when I was like 6-7 years old and I used to watch anything that looked like cartoon.
