I wandered into my brothers' room while he was watching Cowboy Bebop (subtitled) and I got hooked.

I would argue that there is a difference between 'choosing' and 'continuing', though I would guess that the vast majority would fall into the 'continuing' category. One who learns what anime is and then seeks it out to watch some would be the 'chooser' while one who accidentally comes upon anime and keeps watching would be the 'continue-r.' That's how I understood he question.

I started using the internet and then eventually came across some people talking about Naruto, Bleach and One Piece, I choose to check those out and then found out what anime is xD
And choose to continue to watch it

I chose to watch anime. After I graduated high school, I had a lot of free time on my hands. Went browsing through netflix, seen Bleach and was like "meh why not"..108 episodes later lol..well ya know. There was no turning back

if i never replied to this before we always had anime when i was a child. dangaurd ace, spaceketeers, captain harlock, captain future, these are titles that have always been there. my older brother has a childhood friend who's half japanese and he intro us to more. i was in elementary school talking about robotech and no other child knew what i was talking about. and i always thought, "robotech is awesome! why don't these kids watch it?"

When you're a kid and have a TV with no cable, you don't really have a choice. You watch whatever cartoons in your box. So pretty much, 5 tv station was showing animes on certain time of the week so basically you end up watching it by chance.

I didn't choose the anime life, the anime life chose me.

I popped into this thread specifically to say this, but it looks like I can't do that anymore.

Oh well, I watched Toonami all the time until I was 12 and then stopped. When I was almost 16 I found out that you can watch TV on the Internet so I immediately looked up the first show I could think of that I never got to finish, which was .hack//sign. I then told my sister and she told me to watch the Tales of the Abyss anime after attempting to get me to play the game, which had a problem of freezing when a battle started. I then moved on to other shows and it all went downhill from there.

3-4 years? I own VHS's older than that!

On fact, I own DVD's older than that.... Decades older.
I was born into it.

Started watching the english dubbed Naruto on TV as a kid, but the episodes were kinda random, so I started to look them up online to watch them in order.
Got to a point where the english dubbed ended, so started jap with subtitles and from there on I eventually branched out to more shows; bleach was my second that I officially started watching in solely japanese.

One day I was casually puttering along in my shuttle and minding my own business. Suddenly, all my systems started going haywire. After scanning the readouts from the maintenance station I determined that the problem was my sudden entry into a field of incredibly high gravity. With precious little time and power failure seeming imminent, I fired the thrusters in full reverse. It was to no avail, I had already crossed the event horizon of a black hole. My shuttle's descent into the sea of darkness that lay ahead wasn't even slowed down.

I now drift about the void, compacted into a tiny ball of matter and utterly devoid of hope to ever escape.

For me it kind of happened.

University was giving me a rough time and the Job I was working sucked. To take my mind off things I went to Blockbuster and just grabbed anything that looked interesting.

Then I stumbled upon 3x3 Eyes and was blown away. After that I devoured the Anime section, got into an animation school in BC, another one in Toronto and started a career in the Candian animation industry and am much happier with my life.

A bunch of fat weeaboo neckbeards burst into my house one day and threatened to cut me with their glorious nippon steel katanas folded over 1000 times if I didn't start watching anime.
