I used to bash other anime but after seeing how toxic anime fans can be towards each other I stopped because I kinda get frowned upon by my friends for liking anime so I figure I wouldn't wanna be negative towards another fan. I still have shows I don't like and such but if someone likes that particular show I try to see why and just respect their opinion. We all have different tastes and that's just that. We will never live in a time when everyone likes the same anime so might as well get along with each other.

The only true opinion is my opinion. Whatever I say is fact.
Thus <insert an anime series here> iz de bestest anime EVAR

Even if professionals handled the polls there still would be disagreement. All that matters how well a person can present their reasoning behind their opinion. If they can present a great reason then while I may still disagree, I can respect it. If they don't present a good reason and say something like Another iz de best anime EVAR because it is, I am unable to respect that as it doesn't tell me anything. I look at other peoples' opinions to get an idea of what to expect, but never base it on that fact. For instance I've heard the new movie Anabelle was bad and while I still may see the movie it's something I can wait on. While with the movie Gone Girl I heard nothing but good, so on opening day I went to go see it and actually enjoyed it a lot. Now while in the end they are still peoples' opinions and I could agree with them or not, I use them to get an idea of what to expect, but will not base my thoughts on others opinions.

Doesn't matter if they are professionals, I would still put my opinion above theirs.

of course. i'm the only one who can truly discern what i do and do not like. all you have to do is think of an anime with rave reviews that you do not like

So most of us have seen many polls/rankings that make the news feed here about top anime or favorite anime or best anime according to websites voted on by fans. Almost all the time when I read these there are always comments making fun of the polls for being wrong or missing this or missing that. so here are my questions for you.

If these polls/ rankings were voted on by professionals, for example those who work in the anime industry and studios, would you still make fun of or bash at the rankings/polls if you did not agree with them?

basically..do you still put your opinion in a higher position over that of a professionals concerning anime?

If you're referring to the most recent New Type awards... well let's just put it this way... it's New Type awards. New Type awards are pretty much hard to take seriously... how can you take New Type awards/ranking seriously when Kira and Lacus are always in their rankings lol

As for the other polls that are getting posted here... the problem is usually the low voting pool. A poll with a low voting pool can hardly represent what's popular and a lot of times... can come up with really odd results...

If you ask me sales would be a better indicator to what's popular with the fans... although of course popularity != good but hey at least it does a better job at showing what's popular than polls/rankings voted by a small fraction of the fanbase.

i really don't care what others like and/or why, or well that's not true, I find it interesting and fun to talk about, but I mean I won't let if influence what I like or watch. Anyhow, my favourite genres are ecchi, moe, comedy, mecha, so I am in the majority of otaku anyway so have never really had a reason even to look at those polls in detail. XD

Subjective statements are subjective statements, no matter who is making them. Such a thing as an objective oppinion does not exist. As you can't possibly judge the enjoyment an Anime can give you in an objective way, there is practically no point arguing about this. You can discuss the depths of characters, the quality of the animation or the originality of the script, but at the end of the day, the most important part of your oppinion on a show, which is your personal enjoyment, is something that is entirely yours.

True, but theoretically you could find a reviewer who is on your wave length about what makes a good anime. Reviewers are just a time resource for busy people.

I never consider professionals' opinion as ''objective''
The most objective thing you can get out of reviews is ''if you like X, you'll like Y''

Pardon me for being blunt: Opinions are like assholes. Everybody has one and they all stink. Professional or amateur opinions stink equally.
