Yes. I loved the novels more than the anime but its a bit of work figuring out what order to read them in. Things are so much better explained in the novel, in general. The ALO arc is actually pretty good even.

I'm reading the first novel now. It is great. Very descriptive of the events and thought process of the characters. Kirito has a bit more personality to him than in the anime.

I've already finished the first LN and all I have to say is if you like reading novels or just stories in general then good ahead an get the LN. It gives a new perspective on the anime and also gives more insight to the inner workings of Kirito's mind. I just bought the second LN an B&N not too long ago because I want to continue ^^

Yes they're pretty good and well worth reading if you enjoy the series.

The anime is a good adaptation (the people who strongly disagree with this are usually just the SAO hater forum trolls), but there are a few inner monologue things and details that get omitted from the series. Plus there's a mini arc in ALO that is also omitted which was mildly interesting as it introduced a large underground dungeon that ends up being used again later in the novels.

Aside from that, the main reason I read and enjoyed the novels was because I wanted to see what would happen next in the story without having to wait for the anime to catch up.

I saw volume one at Waterstones and was tempted to buy it, but it can wait. If I keep buying little things I want I'll burn through my money every month.
