So as I was going through YouTube looking for people's "Top__" Romance Anime. I thought to myself, why are people drawn to this and how is it that we enjoy Anime more than we would a regular show. As for me, I feel Anime are able to go to a bigger scope, explore and push the boundaries on when, how, and where love can happen. Such as alien invasion, Mecha, Heaven and Hell, Magic as some examples of some backdrops which is great because your not stuck to the limited backdrop of "Slice of Life". Also, as in many anime, there is an abundance of characters of the opposite sex, where you find a character that you either find part of yourself in, aspire to be, or what attracts you to the opposite sex that you want them to find happiness and hope the main protagonist finds themselves having feelings for. As for my favorite Romance, right now it has to be Kimi ni Todoke, if you have not seen it, I highly recommend it. The story is phenomenal, the characters are not rushed and evolve as you watch, and I will admit, I did have some teary moments. As for the characters I'm drawn to, I find myself rooting for the ones you would call "Tsundere", I like it when they are strong, independent, and run from their feelings but they want the protagonist because they compliment them, and feel they can rise to a higher standard with them. I find myself put off by the short hair, Lolita, fragile type characters, so I did not find Clanned very interesting. I'm interested in everyone else's opinion, so lets do this.

I heartily recommend Ai Yori Aoshi. It is a true love story wrapped by a harem show. It's a bit older so the animation style might not appease, but I loved it.

Nah, he means boy's romantic fantasies. As in what the typical young male dreams about in terms of romance being portrayed through anime.

I'm actually writing a romance novella for men, because outside anime and visual novels, the genre doesn't really exist. There are romantic sub-plots in movies and on TV, but in the west, romances are almost always targeted strictly at female audiences. The fact is men have romantic fantasies beyond sex and also enjoy emotional stories. There is a market for them. There's just such little content outside of Japan.

Yea I can understand your thoughts there, and I have to say that I think you are right, there is not much romances targeted to the male audience in western society, maybe its the social stigma that makes it that way, I do got to say that, The Fast and the Furious was made for mostly the male audience but there was the plot of romance in there also, and also in Star Wars I-III.

I like romance but not shoujo....shoujo plots are usually so bad and similar to those mexican soap operas *throws up* or any soap opera.

I like Seinen and even shounen animes with romance. Berserk has very good and realistic romance in my opinion. The only shoujo I really liked was "Legend of Basara" which almost no one really knows (sadly) and it is my all-time favorite romance...the characters are adults so the relationship is more realistic and serious.

I love romance anime, but I kind of wish there were more that went past the main love interests sharing their first kiss. A guy can dream.

But Jousei is the best type of romance sub-genre.
Jousei is far better than Shoujo genre because the characeters were adults.
