This got me thinking, so I decided to peruse my MAL account and come up with a list. I may have missed some though -- I pretty much just did a quick scan and wrote whatever stood out. Plus it's been a while since I've seen a lot of them.

Bakemonogatari
5 Centimeters Per Second
Campione! (Technicality)
Genshiken (Not, strictly, a romance)
Legend of the Galactic Heroes (Definitely not a romance)
Golden Time
The World God Only Knows (Technicality)
Katanagatari (I'm pretty sure this counts, although I can't remember for sure. Also, not strictly a romance)
Kokoro Connect
Natsuyuki Rendevous
Please Teacher!
Spice and Wolf
Mysterious Girlfriend X
White Album
White Album 2
Just about any Hentai (Technicality)

And yes, I'm with you -- this is a very small list.

And I've seen them all XD

It's funny actually, I had someone else come to me and give me a list earlier and there was one show I hadn't seen but still knew about. I'm really at that point where when I finish a show I can be scouring the internet for 1-2 hours to find a new show.

I'm a guy and I like romance anime/manga because I'm a softie..I like anime that are touching and/or cute. Sometimes I just need a break from watching and reading anime/manga that have lots of violence and gore. That's why I like them.

So far my favorite animes that have romance in theme are EF- a tale of melodies, Spice and Wolf, Steins Gate, and Anohana.

My favorite romance manga so far is Girl Friends..I recommend that one to any mature audience regardless of gender or sexual orientation.

Been there. Luckily, these days I barely have enough time to keep up with simulcasts, so I'm in more of a position of having too much anime. It's the one point that I'd say I'm a little glad I have so much shit to do at the moment.

I think I enjoy romance anime because I like character driven shows and romances are almost always character driven. I enjoy watching interesting characters interacting and developing relationships. I'm not sure if I'd prioritise romance over other kinds of relationships, I think I'd be as happy watching shows about family or friends coming together.

Wow, i didnt think there would be this kind of response, you all are awesome! but you will all hate me because i did not find Clanned interesting or entertaining at all. And i think someone pointed this out earlier, but there are also other genre's that have a hint of romance in them but dont really pursue that aspect in the anime. Maybe later i will write down a list of Anime i enjoy.

I find the idea of a strong and virtuous man inspirational. I guess you could say I am a child at heart in that essence. Part of being a strong and virtuous man is also the ability to be a gentleman. Even if the male character is a little bit of an asshole or a little bit of a coward, as long as he develops into someone admirable or is admirable at heart the story makes me feel good. The same goes for female characters though, I tend to like female characters who are strong and virtuous too.

So I love romance series like the Negi manga. Negi grows stronger through the ordeals the series puts him through like a shonen, but at the same time he is also a gentleman toward the ladies. This actually works out well in the story because the female characters all also have a crap load of character development throughout the story, and eventually you start to see a really healthy human relationship form. My favorite female character was Yue, but Nodoka and Ako were also super awesome.

Another shonen romance I adored was Busou Renkin. Both characters were awesome individually, they had great synergy together, and in the end you could see that their relationship would be an extremely healthy one.

On the other hand a lot of Shoujo's that have the female simply reliant on a perfect male don't interest me at all. Those types of relationships feel very unhealthy to me and the character development is very uninteresting. In Shonens you generally have the main character grow from boy to man and his love interest most times isn't a damsel in distress but rather a comrade that grows along with him.

In short I guess I would say that my ideal romance is a really good friendship between the male protagonist and the female protagonist. Where each has something important to contribute to the relationship. Those always put a smile on my face. I could actually even enjoy such a relationship for a homosexual couple, however the characters in yuri and yaoi animes tend to act a little odd in comparison to straight romances. Or rather, I have no problem with a homosexual relationship, I just don't like how homosexual characters are usually presented. For Yaoi you have rapey males and effeminate males.

I'd like to agree with the previous comment that western TV doesn't tend to aim romances at a male audience; this is one of the reasons I like anime.

The other is that there is a completely different set of cliches, and I find it refreshing. Western romance has too much of two things that I hate:

- Love at First Site.
- True Love Excuses All.

Anime tends to do a better job of showing characters that fall in love as they get to know each other, and do so within the context of their daily lives. While you can find some western examples (anything by Katherine Hepburn; When Harry Met Sally), but they are the exception. In Clannad, Toradora, Golden Time, etc., the characters don't fall in love at first sight; they fall in love because as they get to know each other, live together, go to school together, etc. they become friends first and then decide that they want more than that.

And as much as its easy to make fun of the "everybody falls for the nice guy" cliche in anime, I'd rather have that than "our eyes met, and I knew; I'd leave my wife, become a vampire, and kill my neighbors for this person!"

As for other romances that don't end at "I love you", besides the ones already mentioned:

Zero's Familiar
Mysterious Girlfriend X (sort of)
Aki Sora (hey, it fits the criteria!)
Amagami SS Plus (the first season ends most arcs at "I love you"; the second extends those stories)
Ah My Goddess
Eureka Seven
ef: Tale of Memories
Date A Live (sort of)
Yosuga no Sora (a couple of the arcs)
My Little Monster (sort of; the manga does this more)
Aishiteruze Baby
Kare Kano (AKA His and Her Circumstances)

I'll also point out that this is something that several manga do a lot better than their anime adaptations. SA: Special A; Maid-Sama; Love Hina; Kanokon; in each case, the manga goes a lot farther in showing the interaction of two people after they fall in love, where the anime ends early.

surprising no one has mention Horizon in the middle of nowhere/Kyoukaisenjou no Horizon. Hands down probably best anime i've seen as its very different from just about every other anime i've seen except for Mysterious girlfriend and that one still kinda puzzles me cause i find it weird haha but Horizon in the middle of nowhere is pretty unique and i highly recommend it, i forget where i found it. one i just got done watching was Xam'd: lost memories that was so so but kept me interested. I think i prefer anime romance to to real life romance shows is because you're able to buy into the character more just because everything about them is made up where as its always in the back of my mind that its just an actor playing a role....anyways hope you check out the show i mentioned

No, I don't enjoy anime more than other mediums, in terms of context. Anime just gives me an extra dosage of aesthetics. I actually prefer to read romance, particularly Western novels. Many anime, manhua, and manga romances strike me as rather flat and more immature than I prefer, though there are exceptions. Most notably, I've embraced the manga/manhua Hapi Mari, Love in the Mask, Midnight Secretary, Bitter Vigin, Kurohime, Basilisk, and Dokuhime.

It would be great if there was an anime show that was similar to the movie "American Pie".

I like watching romance anime's but not just any thing, usually I'll watch one or two episodes to see if it hooks me. Peach Girl was the very first romance I've watch, since then I've see Little Monster and Say ''I love you". At the moment Say " I love you" is my all time favourite romance show

Some of my favorite romance anime:

Maison Ikkoku <---MUST-SEE ROMANCE ANIME
Kimagure Orange Road (also a classic!)
NANA (though very frustrating, it's very realistic)
Honey and Clover
Kimi ni Todoke
Clannad
Your Lie In April
Nodame Cantabile
Spice and Wolf (though the romance isn't a central focus)
Fushigi Yuugi (though the animation is so very dated ;A; )
Monthly Girl's Nozaki-kun
Ouran High School Host Club

I can't see anyone disliking these (except maybe Spice and Wolf which I've heard people say it's too slow...).
