So, where's the line with waifus?
Posted 10/16/14
As fans of anime, you obviously know what a waifu/husbando is. It's not really clear cut as to what a lot of people think about it as a whole, but that's not what I'm asking anyway.

Where's the line between "somewhat normal" and "They're insane"?

There's a line to everything. Eating food but not gorging yourself. Drinking but not passing out on a daily basis. (((Even though I'm straightedge and disagree...))) drug use can be moderate.

So is having a "waifu" the same? Can it be they just like the character? Are they harmlessly filling some emotional void with it? Are they seriously obsessed a la John Hinckley Jr. and need help?

My argument (not even arguing)

I don't find 2-D characters all that appealing most of the time, however it's normal to feel attracted to things like anime characters, just as it is to find any animated character attractive, especially with fanservice in anime. You rarely ever see non-anime programs stripping characters half naked and rolling them around seductively. Rarely.

The line for me would be between normal attraction/love (in a loose sense) and obsessed, shrine builder who forgoes honest and real relationships for a non-existent character. That's the line for me.

You cross the line and are no longer normal just by saying "waifu" or "husbando" in any sort of serious way outside of a conversation discussing it such as this.

FYI

The line is right before you start saying the word waifu. Like he ^ said.

The line is when you deal with the void in you by adopting a fictional character as a wife or husband.

Deal with your void like normal people. Drinking, drugs, hobbies, burying it, finding a real human being and developing a relationship with them, burying it, seeing a therapist, exercise, burying it....ect.

I deal with my emotions like a real man. -I pretend they don't exist and bury them.- Just look at me! Mentally balanced and stable. Functional member of society. Moonlights as a murderer. Is totally normal.

I believe where you cross the line of being insane is when you are really serious about you "waifu." Like I use the word waifu for fun and for characters I'm really fond of.

Makoto is my waifu

I mean look at him

CUTE.
