While there are quite a lot of critical fans out there, I think non-anime watchers
and media are much more critical and biased toward the anime community.
I do see where you're coming from with the "weaboos" and such.
In this situation I feel that there are more accepting/understanding anime fans
rather than extremely critical fans.

Yes, they are. And this is why our numbers are not as large as they ought to be, IMO. That, and it often seems like the most vocal, most prejudiced "fans" are the ones who run (over) everything, most notably at a certain place that rhymes with Floor Plan.
