So what do you think is going on?

A few months ago the swedish military announced that Russian aircrafts have been in Swedish airspace without permission. The military also took a photo of a Russian aircraft a few weeks ago.

And they yesterday a Russian submarine was detected in our waters. And they're now investigating

I think Russia is just testing to see how far they can go without retaliation.
I was surprised that they took the Crimea and there was no severe reaction from the USA or NATO

I think they'll run through us first.

I thought of the same thing.

To answer OPs question, I have no idea. It's suspicious, but I highly doubt Russia would do anything offensive to Sweden.

None of this is really new it's just in the current climate the media are jumping on it because it plays on fears. Like during the Cold War everything about Russia became news. In the UK Russian bombers are often escorted out of sovereign air space when flying sorties. They aren't actually looking to bomb anything but they often do test flights and yes of course test defenses. See how fast countries respond to breaches and gather intelligence on air defense.

It's no different now than 10 years ago though or 20 years ago and nothing to be majorly concerned about.

putin (and the rest of the world for that matter) knows the united states is impotent now. if europe doesn't like it they can start building a real military of their own because, the good old days where they could just sandbag and depend on the US are over.

Military testing is not a new thing. Countries do it to each other all the time.

That is true but with the recent aggression coming from the Russians in Ukraine and Crimea everyone's becoming cynical.

What a lot of people don't seem to realize is that Crimea is a semi-autonomous country despite being part of the Ukraine. Meaning it's run mostly by itself. It is home to both Russian, pro-Russians, Tartars and Ukrainians. And it's the location of Russia's only warm water naval base. If Russia takes it, there's not much Ukraine, the US and NATO can do. While it would nullify the treaties signed between Russia and Ukraine during the 90's. A treaty in which Ukraine gave up it's nuclear weapons in return for territorial integrity. If Russia were to lose it, Russia loses it's military power in the Black Sea. Which is a prime geopolitical area.
.
Crimea is still sovereign Ukrainian territory. However, it's importance to Russia simply proves that Russia isn't the military powerhouse it once was.
In the 2008 Georgian/Russian War, Georgia shot down 9 of Russia's planes in a little less than a week. The only effective weapon Russia has over the west is propaganda. Which evidently, works well.

I'm sure I saw something about Russian military planes being somewhere near the UK airspace, therefore we sent two fighter jets up to investigate and they flew off. Strange :S (Might have been a while ago though)
