I still think of myself as a relative newbie to anime, but recently I noticed a surge in anime that take pot shots at their own industry (Shirobako) or the manga industry (Mangirl). Normally when manga is the topic it is about the artist with maybe an editor showing up once in a while such as Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun or The Comic Artist and His Assistants, but Mangirl is about the editorial staff of Earth Star Entertainment which is a real company.
Shirobako shows how an anime company functions or at times malfunctions. I was wondering how the corporate climate of the Manga and Anime industry viewed these ridiculing of their industry? But part of me assumes Earth Star Entertainment didn't minmd much since 1) it serialized the Mangirl comic to begin with and 2) is free advertisement. But on the other hand it implied that Earth Star Entertainment hired incompetent staff. Also does anybody know of any other anime that shows the inside life of anime and manga production?

they have low wages and long hours. not too long ago an animator died of being overworked.

That is the reality.
