Ha ha i agree with you on One piece. The art style seems a little goofy. I guess the story makes up for it.

While Kubo relies on High quality art to compensate for the poor pacing of the story in bleach.

I don't get what you are trying to prove? The One Piece picture you chose is from the anime, not the manga.

Manga are cartoons. They are just Japanese cartoons. In Japan, even American cartoon strips are called manga, as manga literally refers to cartoon strips. Also, if you think cartoon=bad art, then you clearly haven't seen enough cartoons in your time.

Also, while I don't think SNK has that bad of art, I still really dislike it. All the characters look so stiff and dead. Someone really oughta sign Isayama up for some life drawing lessons. >.<

SoldierSangria
And don't even get me started on Attack on Titan. I don't like the series, and the artwork is atrocious..EW!

What's so atrocious about it?
I mean, sure it's not great, but what's so extraordinarily hideous about it?

Imo, the art is one of the greatest appeals about One Piece. It is by far one of the most visually unique mangas out there.
It would've been so boring visually if it had looked like a generic manga.

It is extremely poorly drawn, especially for such a well known, mainstream series. The earlier volumes especially are terrible.

As for the art that I don't like I have one giant pet peeve.

Generic Shojo

I'm all for highly detailed eyes and highly stylized clothes. What I am not all for is unfinished line work, bad anatomy and cluttered composition. That being said, I really don't like the art in Portrait of M&M, because it is everything that I could possibly hate about shojo art rolled into one.

Not a fan of the series in any way, but "extremely poorly drawn"? Come on now...

I mean again -- not wonderful art in any way, but I hardly think "extremely poor" or "terrible" are fitting words to describe it.

I usually watch anime, not manga. Isayama's poor drawing is irrelevant because the story line is brilliant.
Secondly, the connotations surrounding the word 'cartoon' and the connotations surrounding the word 'anime' or 'manga' are VERY different.

In my opinion the beauty of manga is that the artist can use it to tell a mature story which wouldn't work as well with real life people. One Piece does the opposite. It reverts manga back to it's cartoon-style origin and the story does have serious elements but the character art is what I classify as a cartoon.

The issue that I take with that is the "can". Manga CAN tell a more mature story like the one contained in Bleach, but it isn't limited to such.

One Piece is quite a bit more goofy than your average shonen and its art style reflects this very clearly. If the art wasn't so goofy, then alot of the humor portion of One Piece just wouldn't come off as well. In the same way you could say that Jojo doesn't really follow manga convention either, instead going for a much more realistic style to fit its grittier material.

This doesn't mean that Jojo and One Piece aren't drawn as manga, it simply means that their respective authors decided that in order to illustrate their stories in the most effective way, they would have to bend the more conventional manga style into something more conducive. And, in the end, isn't that what a good artist does?

Believe me, I also didn't like the art style at first. But as I got through the story more and more, I'll suddenly started loving it. Ofcourse not everybody is the same. And if that's your opinion, I respect that. But let me clarify two things:
Frst, One Piece is supposed to be a fun and serious story. The art style as you may have already figured out, portrays that fun aspect, along with the occasional comedic moments. While the story gives it its seriousness. Lastly, it's still classified as manga as it came from Japan, and the word manga means comic strips, which in turn can also mean cartoons.
