Come on, you picked out a better panel. If you look at random however, the art is poor especially in comparison to other series.

I usually watch anime, not manga. Isayama's poor drawing is irrelevant because the story line is brilliant.
Secondly, the connotations surrounding the word 'cartoon' and the connotations surrounding the word 'anime' or 'manga' are VERY different.

Firstly, we're talking manga here. This thread is literally tiled "worst manga art." I do agree, Isayama's got some pretty good writing. However, I feel his story is somewhat weighed down by his artwork. HIs art is by no means the worst ever, by by god it isn't the best.
Secondly, why does that matter? Yes, there is a stereotypical manga/anime art style, but when you get down to it, its still just a cartoon. They're both still just stylized pictures of stuff.

In my opinion the beauty of manga is that the artist can use it to tell a mature story which wouldn't work as well with real life people. One Piece does the opposite. It reverts manga back to it's cartoon-style origin and the story does have serious elements but the character art is what I classify as a cartoon.

Wait, since when did the story of a manga have to be serious? There are comedy manga aplenty! Furthermore, plenty of comedy manga have art styles that you could also find in a more serious manga. An example of this would be the remake of "One Punch Man."
Now, how is what "One Piece" does a bad thing? Cartoony art can definitely be used to tell a serious story. Ever watch a Pixar movie? Actually, there are some anime that even benefit from having a cartoony art style, like "Kaiba" for example. Heck, the art style of "One Piece" is almost definitely a positive fore me! I'd rather look at something strange and unique like "One PIece" than something with a super generic anime art style to it.

Well okay. How about just link to the google images search. I still don't think "extremely poor" is fitting.

Hell, despite how relatively amateurish it is at times, I wouldn't even say that "Detroit Metal City" (which is hilarious, and you should read it, btw) would qualify as "extremely poor".

Well, then I guess it all depends on personal opinion. For me and quite a few others on this thread, it is poorly drawn. You obviously don't agree. So be it then.

I'd just like to say that I never said "well-drawn" or "not subpar".
Just "not extremely poor".

So much hate for Hunter x Hunter...why!!! Togashi stopped trying in the later arcs, but his earlier arcs (or the few pages where he actually tried) look fine!

I also thought initially that the Attack on Titan was kind of bad, but as the story unfolded, I rather thought it suited it. It's not polished, it's raw, intense, and grim.

My personal opinions on fairly bad art...are...

I dunno, I actually grew to really like the art style of SnK. It took some getting used to, but I guess the roughness and sketchy style of the art reflect the story. It just matches the world somehow. Plus, the art has really, really improved lately while still maintaining the interesting style. It looks different from anything else out there right now (at least that I have seen!) so I like how recognizable and unique it is.

hxh DOES have some amazing artwork, as seen in the latest chapters released this summer. But Togashi gets lazy (or sick, depending on who you ask), and then his art looks like chicken scratch

One piece doesn't deserve to be mentioned here. i mean if you're not a fan of the style that's ok, but it is by no means bad and definitely does not belong with worst.

on to bad manga art. well there are tons of bad shojou but i would like to mention "Tokyo Crazy Paradise" I would actually recommend reading it. but know the art is less than stellar. like a lot of manga it does get a bit better after a while though.

Also, if you haven read skip beat... read it.

It is just the best.

Wow, just wow xD
I hope that's the worst drawn page in the entire series for Togashi's sake...

lol

Well, shit

You know, when I heard about how bad the manga art was, I couldn't really imagine it. I had read the first volume of the manga a while ago, and from what I remembered, it wasn't that bad. I recently picked it up again, and, while not as good as I remembered, it still didn't seem terrible. But I had never imagined that later pages would look this bad...

But at least this helps me feel a bit more confident about my own art now...

on the relevant topic of cartoons and manga artstyle.
I'd like to remind you that both Doreamon and Sazae-san are too of Japans longest and oldest running animated TV series.
And neither of them look anything like the extremely generic artstyle that Kubo has created.

Manga doesn't identify with one particular artstyle and neither do cartoons.
It's like comparing apples to oranges, yes they may look and taste different, but they are still BOTH fruits.
