I saw two episodes of Macross Frontier, and I thought, "This is really cool." And then I never saw any more of it, for whatever reason. I need to fix that.

Yes, fix that. It is really good. So is Macross Zero (prequel miniseries to Macross). Some of the characters in Macross Zero have descendents in Macross Frontier.

When I catch up on my simulcasts and then finish G Gundam then it might happen. I'll definitely watch it all before this new one premiers.

Frontiers has multiple nods at all the Macross shows. inculding one ep that looked exactly like an episode from zero ... for a few minutes.

I personally liked Macross Plus and Macross 7 the best. They had the best main characters. Isamu had that cool rogue ace pilot thing going on and Basara just rocked out with vocals by Fukuyama Yoshiki.

Also the 2 guy 1 girl love triangle produces an easier digestible drama than the 2 girl 1 guy paradigm. Especially since both Isamu and Basara weren't teenagers... thank god they weren't teenagers.

I went back and watched Macross Plus recently, and It is ahead of Frontier in my book. The balance between story, music, and flying/fighting was perfect. Plus like you mentioned the balance of two guys and one girl worked out much better IMO as well (and I agree on the age thing too).

I unfortunately never watched Macross 7 all the way through and have only seen bits and pieces. I should go back and fix that as well. I think it is the only Macross series I haven't seen.

I am so PUMPED for a new Macross!

Macross Plus being an OVA, was done really well and I understand why some people like it the best. Especially since it isn't teenagers! :)

My Rankings:

Macross:SDF (Original) / Macross:DYRL (Do You Remember Love) - movie retelling to me will always be the best. It started it all. (You need to see the series to really understand the movie, but the movie is far better in artwork & Minmei's character)

Macross Frontier (TV Series/2 Movies) - the homage paid to all the other Macross series was done so well! It didn't even feel forced (except the joke of the Pineaaple Cake episode - but that switch and bait was done well)

Macross Plus (OVA & movie): Slightly of formula for Macross, but stayed within the franchise. Truly stands out as a OVA Masterpiece

Macross Zero (OVA): Loved the backstory on Roy Fokker. the story just never quite gelled.

Macross 7 (TV series, 1 movie in middle of TV series, OVA-Dynamite): This Macross squandered so much potential in trying to drag out the series. The music is totally kick-ass (80's power ballad sound). And yes, this is the Macross that gave us the guitar Valkyrie. IF this series was 26 episodes instead of like 49, it would have been so much better!

Not ranked: Macross II Lovers Again (NON CANNON): Rushed the last 2 episodes of a 6 episode OVA. Good music, story flowed good for an OVA, liked the characters!

And remember boys and girls, due to the rat [email protected]@rds at Harmony Gold, to see Delta, we will have to visit the Dark Side.

Which really pisses me off as Macross is a franchise that I would spend REAL MONEY on!

What a dream it would be if Crunchy Roll could somehow stream Macross Delta!

POWER TO THE DREAM!

Because of all the past litigation I doubt we'll ever see the episodes on any North American streaming site.
