Why do YOU think the main characters are always shipped?

Feel free to delete this if there's already a topic like this

I realized how in most anime/ manga the Fandoms favorite shipping is ALWAYS the main characters.
For example:
Tomoya and Nagisa: Clannad/Clannad After Story

Natsu and Lucy: Fairy Tail

Eren x Mikasa: Attack on Titan

Now I have to admit, I do really like these shippings, but I'm a bit confused why people like the main characters paired so much
Anyway, I guess that's all I have to say.

What is confusing about Tomoya and Nagisa? For Clannad to be as significant as it was the main heroine needed to be Nagisa.

As far as Natsu and Lucy goes, I really have no idea. Natsu and Lisanna was more of a thing storywise, and Loki was always hitting on Lucy. I actually don't even know when Natsu and Lucy became a thing, because I wasn't expecting it at all in the beginning.

Eren and Mikasa on the other hand is pretty simple. Eren rescued Mikasa after her family was brutally murdered and gave her a new home, she is pretty much obsessed with him. People like yanderes.

I think you are misunderstanding how this works.... The viewer doesn't do the shipping, the author does the shipping and writes accordingly. We follow along because the narrative throws them together. Some shows are more ambiguous because they're meant to be as part of the plot. But Clannad for example, the whole point of the show was shipping them and you know it from the first episode on because thats what the writer intended. I dont know why you would be surprised that people would go along with it...

Either because the story itself is heading in that direction and it's obvious,
or because they spend the most time on-screen together, I guess?

I don't think the main characters are *always* the favorite ship, though.

Most of the main character shipping sucks for me.

Because they're the main characters and the ones we see the most.

Dumb question, but what does Ship/shipped, mean? I mean, the first things that comes to my mind are the shipping services of USPS and UPS. lol

I think it's because they're the characters with the most depth or backgrounds with each other so people kinda just automatically ship them together.... but your first post was wrong, Otaku-ish, because we all know:

LEVI X EREN 4 LYFE BICHES

DON'T FORGET ABOUT JEAN X FRECKLED JESUS
