I want to say Oniisama e..., but I can't tell if it's bad acting or if the Japanese "accent" just sounded like that back then (sort of like a 50's American "accent" for lack of a better term).

There were times where I literally cringed at that show. I think the very first episode had quite a few parts like that. And the voices for Kaoru the Prince and Saint Just - LOL, so weird.........

Then again, the whole show was like that for me - not just the voice acting but also some of the visuals

Still a great show though.

Well, it is based on the classic 1970's manga, so the artstyle is old-fashioned. I personally enjoyed the show, though it was very soap-operay...Though it seemed to work in favor of the show at the same time.

Are you talking about the crappy English dub? Because what was horrid and out of place with the original Japanese? Did you confuse the meaning of this thread perhaps? o_O?

Oh no, no. I'm talking about the English dub. They were horrible, not the original one.

We're actually talking about bad Japanese voice acting in this thread.

My point exactly, you got confused with the thread.

The topic is horrible JAPANESE DUBBING, not horrible non-Japanese dubbing.

Oh yes, i agree.

I just now realized that I was rather negative in my post and didn't make it expressly clear that I really like that show - especially it's soap-operay nature. Just wanted to clear that up for any future readers.

Though the melodramatic nature of the show seemed to go overboard at parts. I'm reminded of one scene in particular where Miya was crying or screaming or something and it was the most comically forced acting I had ever heard. Plus (and this is just me personally) I felt like all the males sounded kind of creepy. Perhaps that's just because i'm so used to more feminine sounding Japanese voices.

When

'Sigh' - I miss watching that show.

Yup, the melodrama hit sky high proportions - I've noticed that in a lot of older anime especially. Still, I'll take it over moe and loli anyday anyday.

I agree though, some of the acting sounded forced and over the top, comically so lol.

Well, I can't really think of any bad dubs at the moment, but there are some voices/speech patterns I've found kind of annoying.
Usagi's voice in Sailor Moon is somewhat annoying to me, but I've gotten pretty used to it at this point.
Also, the way the youngest brother speaks in Laughing Under the Clouds...it sounds like he's ending every sentence with "-tsu" and it's kind of annoying when coupled with his voice...
I wouldn't say I hate either of these character's voice acting, though. I mean, it's probably how they're supposed to do it, anyway.

I remember in Amagami SS the voice of Sae was really annoying. Also the voice of teddie (kuma) in Persona 4 in the japanese dub can get annoying over time.
