I recently was listening to the Anime Pulse podcast and one of their listeners suggested that Serial Experiments Lain should be updated for todays society. That must have stuck in my head because I began to watch it again and I started to wonder was Lain really a Loli. Toru (The kid that kisses her) says that she is an Angel as if she really was an angel. Furthermore she does go on to meet the real God and he does not refute the fact that she is an angel. This would mean that Lain was older than 14 (Which is the age given to her on the Funimation package) and 13 (Which is the age given to her on the Pioneer package). If she was truly an angel she could be thousands of years old. Which brings me to the question of how old is too old to be a Loli? I know there have been a lot of posts about Lolis, so I apologize for making another one, it's just there are so many things to think about in Lain that I would like to discuss them in detail starting with the simplest thing about her.

First of I disagree with that listener as I don't believe Serial Experiments Lain should be updated. It could just be my undying love for the series and believing it's perfect the way it is, but it doesn't need to be updated at all.
Serial Experiments Lain brings up a lot of questions from technological to well religion( it's been awhile since I've seen it but this is what I remember it raising). If the series was updated I don't think it would have as much of the charm that it does( because of when it was made).
We could go into a long discussion on who Lain is as I believe answers will differ.

As for the loli question, I don't think there is an age limit especially when you take in account all the characters who people consider lolis yet those lolis are quite old. I haven't seen Dance in the Vampire Bund, but from what I've heard there is a loli that looks 12, but is like 300 years old( if I'm not mistaken). So my guess is in order to be a loli they have to look like a child and age doesn't matter.
Doesn't loli mean precious child? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I know it just would not be the same if it were re-done.

If Lain were God, who was she sitting at the table with in the end?

You are right that there is no age limit on being a Loli/lolita. That is a shame because I keep conjuring up images of fifty-sixty yearold women in my head trying to be a loli.

Never seen it but if they something of a spiritual successor could be cool. Supernatural and Technology mixing sounds cool.

also windows 98 dudes and AOL

and this thing

What I feel about 90s anime though was that it was much darker just like the music of the time.

Now it's much less grungy and more colorful and poppy which I like better, I prefer lightheartedness

It's really a shame to see a person limit themselves in such ways. By the way Lain came out around the time when Boy bands first hit big,

Okay I had to go look up the episode as I didn't recall that. I'll get back to you on this as I want to rewatch the entire series now. I still believe she is God as that is what I remember the story hinting at.

I don't know why but when I saw the "person limit" I instantly thought character limit, I had to check if CR had one.

Less limit; more preference.

There were a lot of anime shows that came out in the 90's that weren't dark a disturbing.

1.Oh My Goddess
2. You're Under Arrest!

To name a few.
