After I watched Madoka Magica I vowed to never judge an anime by its cover ever again.

Thats part of the reason I first watched Shin Sekai Yori. I thought, oh the cover looks kinda like Nagi no Asukara (which was amazing) I bet it will be lighthearted and down to earth too. I was wrong.

So i guess Nagi no Asukara is not as dark as Shin Sekai

No no no, they're nothing alike. It's not really dark at all, in the common sense. But it is a lot deeper of a show than you'd expect. Basically, in this universe, humans used to live underwater, but most left and went up on land, losing their ability to breath underwater in the process. I'd say watch the first episode and it gives a pretty good summary what the show is like. Or read my review of it. If you like PA Works shows, I consider this one their best production so far.

I think it's really good. Although, I guess I do have a thing for Mahou Shoujos that aren't the typical "Mahou Shoujo".

I unabashedly do so often. Cover/promo art is supposed to advertise the series. I do supplement with some light to moderate research, as well, which helps catch the chameleon anime (such as Madoka Magica).

If you want a dark show that completely deconstructs magical girl shows, go for it.

Sort of spoilery:

Puella Magi Madoka Magica

Some little girls gain magical powers and fight evil alongside their cute little mascot thingy. Their main fighter is the one in pink named after the title of the series and she is the first power ranger magical girl. It's a very cheerful series.

*Watches Madoka*

Watch Madoka. You won't regret it.

Tokyo Ravens

The MC(the guy with in front) is a priest that either wants to restore his temples name and honor among the other clans while attending some holy school(judging by the mash up of characters and uniforms) or he doesn't want to be apart of some priest war going on but decides to come back due to his childhood friend/love being in trouble(I would guess the one with the purple hair closest to him). The head band guy and blond haired girl are probably rivals turned friends and I would say the redhead is the second love interest. The little fox girl is throwing off a bit and the kid with the glasses seems like some lame side character.

The Madoka shows looks so girly. Like it just doesn't seem like my thing at all but I heard people say it is dark and actually a good show I don't understand my brain does not compute.

Yeah I do...
I thought Boku no Pico was a kid anime...
I ended up Googleing it thinking "Oh, this will be a cute anime for my (9 year old) sister!"
Sadly, I was on Google Images....
