Was the gunmen military? Any info on him yet?

This doesn't apply to all issues but some. Back in the US so many of these people who do these things are seriously troubled, and there is little to no help for them to get better. To many times have they been pushed away from medical help, cause of no insurance or some other stupid reason. You pretty much have to have them arrested first so there is some record..then they get locked down for 48hrs and evaluated.

No info yet on the gunman but no he wasn't military, the person shot and killed at the war memorial was though. There is some speculation (they aren't confirming or denying) that is was a radical like the guy who killed the soldier in Quebec earlier this week.

Its really sad, i'm sorry for your country's loss :(. Its a real shock to me to hear something like that happening in Canada. But I guess its cause many of my gaming friends are Canadian and they're always telling me how awesome and safe it is there. :/

Thank you.

It comes as a shock to us Canadians as well.

Is Canada awesome? Yes. Is it safer then some other countries? Yes. But being allies with the US and Great Britain does put a target on our backs if you get my drift.

I turned on the news and the first thing I see is reporters speculating whether or not the shooter was a radical Muslim and if this was a lone wolf attack. Typical American propaganda. "Omg this guy whose not in our country just shot someone. He's probably a part of ISIS. Let's shoot more missles at already damaged Middle Eastern towns!"

Actually, globally what many are saying is that the shooter is Muslim and part of ISIS (even though it has not been proven). Unfortunately, given the stereotypes of Muslims globally, this was the first thing that popped out of many a person's mouths, and it what many were and are privately thinking.

Anyway, it has been a tough day for Canada - but we're here supporting you. Best of luck, you'll have better days.

Given that ISIS had a call out to attack Canadian soldiers and that there had been a recent attack in Quebec... the assumption that it was a radical Muslim making the attack in understandable but still an assumption.

Funky, early reports had Parliament's Sgt at Arms (usually a decorated soldier, but most famous for his robes ceremonial mace and funky hat) who took out the attacking gunmen. Turns out he's got a gun under those ceremonial robes.

Oops the link above is for the guy doing the same job in the provincial legislature.

How was the shooter able to get into parliament with a weapon?
Is there no security checks?

That man is a real hero and a living example of the phrase

We are peaceful. to a point. The assumption is that it was an attack by someone radicalised in response to our sending warplanes to participate in the fight against ISIS.

Indifferent - not sure about that.

Mooses - when I was growing up they were common. Not so much on the streets of Toronto however.

you forgot Hockey and Maple Syrup.

So it has been revealed that the shooter had recently converted to ISLAM; in other words, a Muslim.

Why am I not surprised.

I'm sorry to hear that this happened. I am surprised, though, that something like this hadn't happened earlier in Canada, with their very liberal stance on immigration. If you're unable to do a thorough background check on everyone arriving, you're unable to really know if you let in someone with a very bad past.

My thoughts are with the slain soldier's family and friends. May you find solace in knowing he died an honorable death.

First thing I heard when I woke up this morning. I live in Ottawa so this is quite a shock to me, to all of us.

But we will not be intimidated. Justice will be dealt swiftly.
