I haven't had a problem with CR, I have had multiple problems with Funimations site like videos not playing or resetting halfway through the video, or the final problem that made me come here.... telling me that I was living in another country. I couldn't watch anything at that point because it said "Video is not available in your region/country"

so bottom line is, I like it here

I've never gotten hate for using this site.
I actually got many of my friends to use it.

Maybe they just dislike it since you get better quality and earlier releases if you subscribe.
Which I don't mind.

Hello everyone! Im a new user of the site so bare with me here but i wanted to ask about this because of something that happened with some friends of mine. Basically i have been watching anime for about a year now and using crunchyroll for few months. Anyway i was asked by a few of my friends who are more lets say "hardcore" anime fans then i what site i use to watch anime and when i told them crunchyroll they were not to happy to say the least XD. Calling it gay and all that Jazz so it got my thinking is this site seen as the sword art online for watching anime. The Whole " i hate it because its popular" story or am i just looking to deep into things. Also can i just say of the few people i have interacted with on the site so far this place is great :)

maybe they saw my username...

The truth is any business will have people who absolutely refuse to do business with you and will give you negative reviews and other people will hate a business but still do business with them because they are (1) cheaper, (2) have more selection, (3) more convenient, etc. If your friends refuse to do business with Crunchyroll that is their issue and shouldn't affect your decision to use the site. I believe this is a case of "I hate Google because they are such a large company." But when they open up their browser they immediately go to Google. Large companies just have that problem that people don't want companies to become too large, but at the same time they want more for less. They probably don't like that Crunchyroll had to remove most of their series because of legal reasons. I've received a couple cease-and-desist orders in the past and they are scary. You can't blame Crunchyroll for removing that material to become a legal legit company.

I don't really care what site people use to watch their anime. It bugs me a tad bit sometimes though when Crunchy subs use regular subs when the character is clearly using an accent or imitating how English people speak Japanese, but then again, I don't have a great understanding of this.

lol well I think KCP has that stuff you mentioned in it anyway that madvr renderer and stuff. I don't know if it has the absolute best image quality, I think it does though. VLC (which a lot of people use) has terrible image quality.

Well calling it gay is just stupid.

At one point I may have thought things similar to your friends, but then I realized that I am actually supporting the anime industry by using crunchyroll, which is awesome. Also the quality is fantastic, and the forums are great as well

Lol, how about this- If they can give valid reasons as to why CR is "bad", then I'll accept their complaints. First off I wouldn't use SAO as an example, yes some people do just hate it over the over-hyped out treatment it gets, but others actually constructively take a look at the plot and realize it isn't there(besides the first 2 episodes) and please don't take it the wrong way this isn't me hating on SAO, this is me comparing it to any anime with a plot, Steins; Gate comes to mind, where things actually happen for a reason and solve some kind of issue that leads to character development, not just Slash-Death-Slash-SuperpowerUpAwesomeMCPlotArmorAttackGo-Death-Slash-Fanservice. I will say that I did watch every episode and am still watching the new episodes of SAO(hopefully the new arc will be cool, glad we're back to swords again too) but it just is eye candy to me, nothing intellectually stimulating. Though merely calling something "gay" and/or "not cool" isn't even criticism, it's just an insult to people who are trying to make a living out of watching, streaming, subbing, selling products, etc about anime. I understand we live in an age(I'm 19 so don't think I don't understand what "kickass torrents" are and that everybody just pirates shit) where everything is too convenient, even our physical/social/emotional needs are literally spoon fed and delivered right to our doorstep or handed down to us, but we need to learn that there are things in life worth working for and that's because it all ties in to each other as we're all indigenous populace of the same planet meaning our environments are intertwined both economically and topographically. Anyways to cut it short, you're giving people jobs and actually helping people survive in a world that is a business(meaning it runs off cash) for watching anime at your convenience, not to mention I also have a Funimation and Hulu subscription(not saying these sites are "Godly" or best of everything, or really even defending it. Moreover just criticizing the fact people think they are somehow entitled to products that others put massive amount of work, time, money and usually emotions into so that they could survive and prosper, only to be exploited by the fact that a business cannot prosper without internet thus somebody uses their hacker bullshit to then pirate/sell their product for themselves illegally totally disregarding the fact that the point of your product was mainly about making the money back, as well as feel rewarded for the time and effort you've put into said process of creating the product thus eventually profit off said product to prosper as a human being, plus the person made it has the right to sell it or give it out for free, you shouldn't and can't truly believe it's your right to view his product simply because you heard it's good or want to it's their product and they have say to who gets a piece of the pie, so to speak. Also this wouldn't be the case if everybody didn't enjoy having their valueless paper in their back pocket, but because we seem to want to live off each other's paper trails it's just the way life is. It's like me fucking your wife, and just assuming you'd be fine with that, or simply not caring. Tis a pirates life for me!) which could be equated to as "fair". Whereas pirating anime means you're sticking a middle finger up to every other person who created it, watches it, buys it, sponsored it, produced it or sold it because you're too worked up on your own self-satisfaction to help anybody else out. So if you asked me why I pay people money, it wouldn't be because "I have to" or "it's what it is".... it's because other people want to be happy as well and if 7 dollar bills can achieve that... well shit, I'll be more than happy to comply. Also you can't beat 1080p, first release, uncensored(lol well if they can, meaning if they can't pirating also can't as there is no uncensored out there) and having it play on your xbox, plus I have my entire Queue set up so that each anime's theme relates to one another and so I can always watch any of my favorite shows. I can't tell you how many animes I have forgotten about just because I used to think I somehow deserved to watch the animes I wanted to watch regardless of the fact that I am doing nothing to help or give back or even acknowledge their efforts(it's called immaturity and naivety) thus I pirated multiple animes for quite awhile and it worked out until I broke my desktop. Now I have my laptop which is a macbook air so it doesn't store too much, also it can't connect to my TV so these legal sites that store the massive amounts of anime's data is a huge help in that department.

Well, all I can see for hating on CR are it's crap servers(or whatever it is that's causing the video players to lag, crash, and/or give beautiful blank screens.) and occasional delayed releases. Not that all fansubs are that much greater on the latter part though.

Because I'm a tech noob with a crappy pc that can't seem to play HD vids without extreme lags and out of sync video/sound.

Crunchyroll has good subs but they´re in a lower level compared to other legal subs in DVD or BD in Spain (where I live), for example. Some crunchy subs has flaws, and in some cases are kinda serious.

Usually a normal legal translators cannot modify an image putting a translations on "in-screen" texts of any kind, as school room facilities in english, and the like. This I´ve seen it in Crunchyroll.

Also those legal translators doesn´t write honorifics, because a translation means to : Translate and adapt what is said into something you would say in your own language.

That´s the way it should be done.

Do you talk with your friends, family, teachers (or other kinds of superiors) attaching, chan, kun, san or other honorific of the sort, in your daily life?

No? Then you have an answer.

The most important part of translating is not to translate literally, but it´s very important to try to keep as literal as you can.

The point is to translate what is said into something understandable and credible. Something a character (with a specific way of speech or do things) would say in your own language. It´s important to try to keep the way of talking of a character in japanese when translating into another language, when possible, of course.

If you can keep it literally, it´s better, of course. You should always aim to keep what is said as literal as possible. But in a lot of times it´s not doable or desirable. When in those cases one should keep it natural and credible in your language. This is the most important part.

I would like to point out that if I have the chance to see a chapter of an anime here or an illegal web, I´ll always choose Crunchyroll being legal. Or Daisuki or other legal sites.
