Well when I was in my early 20's I almost died. My gallbladder decided to go and caused serous/deadly pancreatic problems. I was told after my ultrasound that if I didn't have it out sometime that week I would likely die before the following weekend. I had lived with that for five month prior and none of the doctors figured out how I lived so long being so sick.

someone i know very well experienced something similar. in her case it was a misdiagnosis that almost ended up costing her life later on and one she continues to struggles with today. now she's a scientist, working for the biggest hospital in Britain and it's her main goal that the kind of incompetency she came across doesn't go unnoticed. don't want to blow her bubble but i doubt anything can change but the little things sometimes matter too i guess.

I do something close to what she does but I call it being the CEO of your own health care. I give props to her for trying to change it, even if it is just one life, that is one life she saved.

I have found after ordeals that nearly kill you, you do tend to struggle. I personally found physical and mental are the most common that I see, or come across. But all of us are stronger for living and doing what we do now.

This entire year has been a string of me learning a bunch of new things that I'm capable of.
One of the big things, was transitioning to adulthood.

It's something I knew I would eventually do... but I didn't think I could do it so quickly and successfully.
Back in March I was pretty worried about how the rest of the year would pan out.
I just graduated from my last year of College in April, so I was worried about getting an internship, finding a place to stay, having enough money to pay for a down payment, finding a job AFTER the internship, etc.

But everything worked out well, EXTREMELY well. All my worries were for naught.
I'm really thankful for the support from my family, and I'm proud of myself for being able to achieve so much more then I thought I was able too.

I never thought I would have to accept the death of the woman who meant the world to me.

I never thought I would have to recover from shattering two vertebrae. It took about 18 months to be more or less pain free and functional after that crash.

yeah but she's not a business person and with how big these hospitals can be, she's better placed to change lives and she's better placed to train other staff.

That one is pretty easy for me, and that is earning a graduate doctorate degree. Even though I claim to be lazy and not as dedicated as a student as my fellow colleagues in college, I do have some great smarts and skills that make others quite envious of me. Of course, I didn't originally plan on earning it, but I ended up going for my doctorate simply because there just were not many job opportunities when I graduated with my masters degree. It was extremely tough and I almost was forced to quit after barely passing my qualifying exams, but I did pull through and earned it in the end.
