Why is there so much weird fast food in Japan and Korea? Is it just a gimmick or do people actually buy these things?
Burger King released this disgusting burger

KFC has this

No bun, all meat?

....I'd eat it

People obviously buy it or they wouldn't bother selling it again and again. That black burger has been brought back at least 3 times now. That double down...I don't want that burger in there but while they lasted here it was delicious. Though I don't know why you think that one is weird.

Wendy's has a BBQ pulled pork sandwich with a burger slapped on it.

Arby's has the meat mountain which is literally every meat they have on a single sandwich.

I don't think there are any real gimmicks when it comes to food. People will buy and eat practically anything if it has a decent enough name slapped on it.

I'm pretty sure KFC had a similar thing in the U.S. not so long ago. I wouldn't mind that one, but I wouldn't be able to finish it all in one sitting xD And these fast food companies are global, so they cater their "gimmicks" to a certain country's preference. Or they're in a slump and want to try something new to get sales going. And since people who don't live in Asia already think their food is weird, of course you're going to think it's strange, because you don't live there. But granted, probably some people in Japan and Korea are even like "WTF". And a lot of places around the world have awesome things in their fast food restaurants that aren't available in other countries. So one day, I hope to have a chance to travel to try food around the world, including fast food.

The KFC burger was in America first.

The black(kuro) burger is a gimmick. The only people who would buy a spray painted burger are the hard core fans who know no bounds on how disgusting they can eat.

Well there are many people that would think out food is "strange" as well. It's all about the perspective. If Japan and Korea thought those were "strange" then they wouldn't be buying it (or maybe they would lol) and it wouldn't be worth selling. So I'm not really sure how to answer the question other than different places can sell different kinds of food..

You probably never even had the thing to know how it tastes. A majority of people who have actually tasted it and reviewed it have said it tastes good or fine. Some say it isn't very odd tasting or special but not too many, in fact I haven't come across anyone, have flat out called it disgusting or bad.

I bet about 15 minutes after eating that kfc sandwich your body would completely shut down.

idk they all look equally disgusting regardless of country

It just seems strange because you're not used to it. People from one country find food that is normal in other countries to be strange many a time.

Often, when something is unfamiliar it becomes strange though it is not always so.

It is always good to keep an open mind.

Talk about the food.. lol. What about the commercials and game shows and such? .. Of course, strange isn't the word I would personally use for it.. haha. I love Japanese/Korean culture. To me, it is quite interesting.
