Superbia and Invidia

These are the two main things that drive me in pretty much anything I do.

Out of all the seven sins I think the ones that pertain to me the most are Acedia, Superbia, Gula, Ira, and Avaritia. Of course the degree with which one individual sin describes me varies. Anyway, if I had to choose just one I'd say Acedia fits me the best. I am one lazy ass mofo. Like seriously, I stay secluded in my house for the most part in my room doing absolutely nothing save for listening to music, reading, or using the internet. I don't really go anywhere all that much or hang out with friends and if I do happen to actually venture outside, it's really only because I'm helping my mom with grocery shopping (which often leads to going out to eat and I like food, so yay!) or going to see a movie with my family. I'm so asocial man. I have no life -_-

Acedia and Invidia would probably be the most fitting. I'm ridiculously lazy and seem very indifferent from an outsiders perspective.

Invidia because I envy the intelligence of others.

Hmmmm... I'd say pride or wrath are the ones I'd most likely suffer from.

Invidia... oh sweet invidia..

You know that Invidia was once a goddess, right? Her name was originally Nemesis, and she had a following that rivaled the Spartans for strength and tenacity. She was hailed as the "black winged goddess, daughter of Night, Balancer of Fortune". Since Fortune was often wanton with her blessings, favoring some more than others, It was up to Nemesis to punish those who possessed too much pride and confidence as a result of their good fortune, and thought themselves godlike. When the romans came they renamed her Invidia, and even still she was popular enough to appear on their coins. (whenever you see an old roman, coin, and they're more common than you think, and see what looks like a winged angel with a sword in hand? That's old school nemesis/invidia )

The church came though, and with it, christianity began to demonize old gods. To Invidia, they ripped off her wings, and took away her sword. Instead they took a foul and poisonous snake and made it bite her chest. The venom is supposed to course through her heart and veins, making her one of the bitterest of sins, never happy to see what others have that she does not.

Invidia is special to me. I miss her days of being nemesis, the black winged equalizer.

Superbia and Invidia (Not for the faint of heart)

I usually control myself, but sometimes I want to be better than everyone else. However I try to be the opposite of this these which are Kindness and Humility, specially humility.

IRA

Because it overrides all the others when I have it.

I got all of them to a degree

The ones that I definitely don't worry about is Gula and Envy, very few times I am slightly envious, and even less times am I gluttonous.
Greed is about in the middle, I do have a collection of stuff so yeah.
The big ones for me are Lust, Sloth, Wrath, and Pride.

Luxuria - Lust - hentai, nuff said. (Technically I have good chastity as well)
Acedia - Sloth - procrastination and video games.
Ira - Wrath - I have a silent anger.
Superbia - Pride - I hate loosing and have arrogance sometimes.

Ira >.... Sloth > ............. Lust > ................................... Pride

Of the Seven Deadly Sins, I'm probably most guilty of sloth (acedia) and pride (superbia). I'm far too lazy for my own good, and rather infamous for sleeping in waaaaaaaaaaaay too late as well as procrastinating on everything from schoolwork to finding a job. When Jecht said "Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow?" in FFX, it was just really resonating.

That said I do have a lot of talent and skill to make up for it, so I still don't do terrible in a lot.

My other greatest weakness is muh pride. I absolutely hate to lose contests, assuming I'm familiar with the rules and basic strategy, which is why using underhanded tricks to achieve victory really doesn't sit well with me. Having a preference for fair, open contests rarely works in reality, though, inviting a bit of wrath (ira) as well.

Same for me when it comes to Sloth. I'm a half-asses kind of guy, but half my ass keeps up with most people's full ass.

Hmmmmm.....

I think it might also be a good point to explain some of these sins a bit more...

If you want to use the old words, we may use the old definitions:

Acedia - Sloth
This isn't just laziness. It's apathy, uncaring, not living up to your fullest potential. Wasting time, skills, and resources through inaction. It actually has roots in its "sinhood" with depression, existential crisis, It's like a fog that covers you because you haven't any motivation to act or do. This differs it from:

Gula - Gluttony
Overconsumption to the point of incredible waste. This isn't just "oh I shouldn't have had that extra burger" but, wasting just about anything without reason. It could be making 10 grilled cheese sandwiches, eating one, and tossing the other nine in the trash. It could be spending $900 on an item that you could buy for $5 anywhere else, just because. It could be building a fountain that dispenses wine for the entrance to your mansion when you're a teetotaler and only really live out of one room. This leads me to....

Luxuria - Lust
Yeah, it has a lot to do with sexual desire these days, but originally it was kind of a catch all for the inordinate desire for earthly pleasures -for luxury. It didn't necessarily mean sexual desire, but to just desire and covet pleasure unendingly. But this sin starts to sound a lot like....

Avaritia - Greed
Greed is when you seek to possess EVERYTHING. It's the desire that leads to stealing, It's the sin of scavengers. It's not about the pleasure one gets from owning things, it's about the incessant desire to own. You lie and trick others to get something more. You don't care about the person, the pleasure it can give you. It doesn't matter. It's just to own things. Like the dog in the manger, you won't let the cows eat, because you are driven to keep the grain which is useless to you for yourself. Not to be confused with....

Invidia - Envy
Envy isn't about owning things. Envy is about someone else possessing or being something and you don't like it. It could be the result of another sin, like greed above, or pride (we'll hit that one next) but it's as I described above when i spoke of the imagery used for envy. It's the snake that bites the heart. It's the malice and evil intent because someone else is joyous and you don't want them to be. It's the malice that sits and festers inside you. It's feeling deficiency in yourself because someone else does not possess that same deficiency, and you seek to rectify it. Noww might be a good time to introduce....

Ira - Wrath
Wrath is anger, but it's more than anger. Anger was originally recognized as being a good thing. It's a healthy reaction to being wronged. It's what you do with that anger or "ire" that turns it into wrath. It's when you unleash such fury that the punishment outweighs the crime. When you are blind or even opposed to charity or mercy in the name of exacting vengeance. It's a personal "favorite" of mine as when I get angry, and I feel righteously angry, I want nothing more than to destroy a person so that they can never even bring themselves to consider doing it again. I often want to enact the same crime upn them a hundred fold and make them cower at the thought of crossing me or anyone else the same way again... There are ways to combat these since, but I have one (or two, depending on how you think of it) sin left...

Superbia - Pride/Vaingloria - Vainglory
I left this till the end for a reason. This is one of the sins that was switched out. part of the way into its history, pride took over for vainglory. Pride is associated with hubris and a superiority complex. It's to think yourself overwhelmingly better than anyone else. To think yourself equal to god. Pride isn't about doing something good and that feeling you have for doing a good job in this sense. It's self love over the love of god and your fellow man. It's narcissism at its worst. It's a bit more specific than vainglory, which it replaced. Vainglory, or vanity, is about trumping up your successes to immense proportions. It's about being a braggart, and is a fairly good indicator of the newer sin of pride...

Countering the deadly sins, there's 7 heavenly virtues.

Castitas - Chastity
To remain pure. To disregard temptation in its many forms. To remain chaste doesn't necessarily mean to refrain from sex. it can refer to any pleasure than seeeks to tempt the individual and lead them astray. This combats lust.

Temperantia - Temperance
To combat gluttony. To use restraint. To conserve. To defer an action or choice in lieu of immediate gratification.

Caritas - Charity
I prefer Agape here. It's love. Not romantic love. It's the much harder love here. It's a feeling of benevolence and kindness towards your fellow man. It's giving of yourself. It's a willingness to lay down all you have and all that you are for others. It is the highest goal of the Christian (and other) faiths. It is used to combat Greed,

Industria - Perseverance
To work hard was once considered part and parcel with the human condition. This meant facing your obstacles head on. To be decisive and forthright. to perservere as things got tough. It was used to fight sloth.

Patientia - Patience
Yet another virtue of the same ilk as Temperance, this is best described by what it fought: Wrath. It was about holding a level head. About not reacting with immediacy. About coolheadedness and creating stability.

Benevolentia - Kindness
Close with Caritas. Whereas I chose agape for love, this I like to describe as retaining a sense of humaneness. It's the charity and empathy for others. It's obvious that this fights against Envy, the poison inside oneself towards others.

Humilitas - Humility
This is about not boasting. Remembering your own sins, and remembering to examine yourself and remember your own flaws before judging others. It's about remembering you are no greater or no worse than anyone else. You may be different, but we all come from dust and return to it. It combats pride.

Ooog... Long post. there. The sins and virtues are of immense importance to me. My tattoo, which I can't seem to find the artwork I came up with for, is of the seven virtues, and, when the extra cash comes around, I'll probably opt to getting a second with the sins.

Pride:

"I ain't ever gon quit that,
Ever been the one to take orders cuz I give that
never sit back,
never asked for a break, even for a mof@#$ing kitkat
when the shit crack, Imma be right there
ain't for the games and the chit chat,
it's my time, and I'm gon shine,
when I leave this bitch'll be pitch black."
