1. Yui being changed into an item should have been as simple as relabeling her code as an item rather than a character, due to the adaptive nature of the games code.(This is a fictional program, real life coding knowledge will get you nowhere in trying to understand it save for theoretical. Not to mention Kirito has knowledge of the fictional programming within the world; and it must have been pretty advanced knowledge too, given what he is studying later on in the series).

2. Asuna is a bad ass and a very strong female lead. However, that does not matter if your mind has been captured and placed in a prison that prevents you from using your abilities. The guy in the Alfheim arc is a creep because that was how he was written. He also has administrative powers over the game world and can nullify her abilities dropping all her stats to 1. The situation could have easily been the other way around with Kirito being locked up. She isn't a damsel in distress, she is in trouble and Kirito braves the game to come save her no different than she would had it been the other way around.

3. So what if she likes cooking, a lot of people like cooking. The fact that she is a girl has no bearing on that.

4. I legit don't understand why people wouldn't like Gun Gale so I can't find anything to argue against. I think the thing most people complain about is the lack of characters and character development, but Kirito was asked to go to Gun Gale to discreetly investigate the killings that had been going on. The only reason Sinon got involved was she helped him learn about the game and how to play, and he didn't want to involve her further, but she became a target. Also, Sinon, in my opinion, is one of the most developed characters at that point in the show.

5. And as far as things slowing down after a while, which I find some people complaining about: their lives aren't in danger anymore, at least not as much as they had been, they can relax a bit and it is definitely not as tense as it was because of that.

6. Suguha liking Kirito, while uncommon and a bit weird, is a thing that can happen sometimes. But in her case she later gives up on that and pretty much realizes that she let her feelings go to far(probably due to how they had had a close relationship and then Kirito secluding himself and not having much to do with her anymore). And she goes back to having a normal sibling relationship with him.

While I understand some people just don't like the show, and that's fine. I just wanted to address some of the things I find people using to hate on the series that I personally think would not be a problem if they were just considered in the context of the show and paid attention to. Not to say people aren't paying attention, but that when people notice something they don't like they will sometimes not give it the "benefit of the doubt" and miss the context around it, and that can lead to a lot of problems and confusion, especially on the internet.

You use your first post to necro a thread no one wants necro'd? A'ight.

I actually liked SAO. Like literally SAO arc only. Although romance was rushed a bit. And the fact that literally every female character that meets Kirito falls for him or develops some crush on him. I like stories that have a bunch of impossible, imaginative elements but not when relationships are unrealistically stupid.

ALO arc made me want to stab myself and GGO was meh. I hated Suguha/Leafa. She was too whiny. If they're animating another one, I don't think I will watch it. The storyline just keeps down-spiraling. Shit I guess that means I actually hate this series more than I like it.

Meh, as many people have stated in here, much of the "hate" has become a meme right now. Some people try to justify their hate on the show being too mainstream or something like that, which is your usual shounen hate. I myself really enjoyed the first arc, as it was the first time I had watched an anime with this kind of virtual/RPG world, even though there were heaps of other animes that had explored this kind of story. It was a solid 9/10 to me.

However, as we moved to the second arc, that's when things went downhill to me, don't get me wrong, I enjoy romance and I wouldn't mind having more of it in the anime, but the feeling I got from the second arc was way different when compared to the first. The bits outside the virtual world felt so... "bland". I didn't felt like watching those bits, but since they contained important parts of the story, I knew I had to watch those. In other words (and in my opinion), arc 1 and arc 2 are two different animes, as they provide two completely different vibes.

As for the second season, I had to drop on the second episode, I mean, a shooting game? Really? It's like grabbing a ongoing anime and changing its core from a season to another. I don't know, that might just be me being a little bit biased from the second arc of season 1 too.

Many people only hated the Halo games during the days of the original Xbox because they were so extremely popular and same thing with Call Of Duty right now and many people hated on Naruto because it was the most popular anime in the old days and now many people have started to hate on One Piece instead for the same reason so yea plenty of different stuff mostly get hated because they are so popular.
I think Justin Bieber and the Twillight movies were so hated mostly because they were so popular too.

Because not everyone likes fantasy with romantic comedy. Anyway, I haven't complained much about SAO at all and I will most certainly won't complain about the movie.

Everything popular will always have that 10% of people that supposedly "hate it" xD
Only thing I thought sucked was the Gungale arc

I rather liked the first arc of SAO. I enjoyed the series until the ALO arc which made me want to stab myself with a fork. The second season was OK. Not as enjoyable as the first arc but much better than ALO. So overall the show comes out as average on my scale but I enjoyed it.

i think the better question is, "why do people keep reviving a thread asking why some people hate on a series over 4 years old?"

I don't hate it tho. I just could not get into it, just remove the game part of the anime and it's just another harem anime with the least flawed OP main character . If you love it more power to you but it's not my cup of tea. I also didn't like the characters much (Manly Kirito and the girls)

You are right though, SAO gets hate for the exact same reasons that Twilight does.

1) It's extremely popular
2) It's extremely stupid

If something isn't popular, and it's bad, people don't think about it. If something is popular and it's good, people generally say "It wasn't for me." If something is Popular and it's bad or stupid, then it gets a lot of hate.

My personal problem with SAO is basically that it's a harem. MMO based Anime are interesting because they usually tackle the interactions of a community consisting of people from all walks of life united by a common hobby. SAO focuses on one guy being badass and winning over girls. Parts of Aincrad were decent, and Mother's Rosario finally got the right idea, but the majority of SAO was an interesting premise wasted on a harem bullshit plot.

SAO I'd say is an okay harem anime, a decent anime overall, but the worst MMO / virtual world anime out there.

Doesn't this mean it's a zombie thread??

Should we worry about a possible epidemic?
