I like Infinite Stratos a lot better than SAO. Would my hate still be considered elitism? I definitely wouldn't call IS a masterpiece.

I see nothing wrong with people giving their views. I don't mind people replying to every person that makes a post about how SAO is the greatest thing they ever saw. Sure, the order of said posts aren't always as I describe. I just feel if it isn't hateful (if you like it, you are dumb, ect) - they should be allowed to post and defend their position much like people that go on about saying any anime is the greatest.

Anyways, I agree with MysticGon. About the first half being okay, not the Naruto thing, XD.

Yep. If I were much younger and haven't seen so much things, maybe I wouldn't echo that it was "okay" and be crazy about it. I don't apologize for it though. I'm perfectly fine watching 0-3 airing shows a season gives me time for my other hobbies.

I envy you for continuing the battle though! I'm glad you brought up the elitism stuff.

Now as a serious post. The only thing I really hate about SAO is the fact that its character development is handled very very badly. There are traces of character development, but they happen so rapidly and bluntly that it doesn't even feel like character development. There is no depth to it. If Kawahara had written SAO more like Accel World, I would have totally loved it. As it is though, it feels extremely shallow to me, and with a few exceptions pretty much every episode just reinforces how shallow the story actually is.

Magical Warfare's anime adaptation was handled horribly, that is the problem with it. It definitely had character development and a fairly interesting premise. It just skipped around and cut out so much that the whole thing fell apart. I think that is the problem with trying to stuff a story that slowly unwinds into a 13 episode anime. I am sort of seeing this same problem with Log Horizon, I have been reading the books for LH and there is A LOT of exposition and explanation that is heavily abridged in the anime adaptation.

Obviously within the elite (thats us, the ones who discuss it on forums and write reviews and stuff) there are going to be different tastes. I for one, am not a fan of Log Horizon. I recognize that there people who like it much better than Sword Art, and more power to them, but personally there are a lot of things about it that just rub me the wrong way. Thats not elitism, the fact that we are even comparing them and discussing their relative merits is elitism. Elitism is not necessarily a bad thing, I write my reviews with other anime watchers (the elite) in mind. I don't write them with my random highschool friends or my grandma in mind.

What I'm basically saying is that It's ok to be elitist and voice your opinions on various anime, but when you start to insult each other's intelligence for the very notion of liking a certain anime (there are exceptions...), thats when you need to take a step back and remember the death spiral.

idk how magical warfare got brought into this, but as an anime only watcher of that, it was ok at first, seemed like it had a good story going, assuming the light novel does it better.. cause the anime left me confused and with many questions. As for me sao i get why people hate it, too much romance, not enough action, but i like it my self, and think it a very interesting concept, but i have to admit the romance episodes in the woods, bore me, and the alo story is mostly meh, but dang that Sugou creeeepy much

I wouldn't say very very badly, considering some characters had good character development and some had bad. As a whole, I feel like it was decent. Compared to shows like DBZ and Naruto, SAO has some good character development... At least with certain characters, arc matters too.

SAO is fine. I could've done without the whole tear licking almost rape and tentacles in ALO but I thought the rest was fine. Caliber so far is good, GGO was...meh.

The ED for this show was the greatest thing ever. Nano is the best *bows before the goddess*. Too bad about the actual show though.

Yep. Born to Be (I think that was the name) was a really good song.

The animation style they used for the ED was also fantastic.

Nothing wrong with that. You can like and dislike what you want. Just don't expect the internet to be so understanding.

My first Anime was Naruto in English on Disney Channel, make fun of me if you want lol but it wasn't until I got out of the Military and watched Netflix SAO that I got into Anime so that is why SAO holds a small piece of my heart(Season One that is) and then there was Fairytail and One Piece and eventually I got out of just English and into SUBs. The End of my Anime life Story.

I started with English stuff too. Except I started really young, in like the mid 90's, so most of the first animes I saw were dubs of 80's animes like Robotech (Macross), Dragon Ball, Tekkaman Blade, Sailor Moon. Maybe it is just Nostalgia but I dunno, animes back then even though they weren't as polished on average felt a bit smarter storywise than animes today lol.
