Yes it is.

I don't see any other fighting Anime from the 80's still getting periodic movie releases.

I can go into detail about why shows like Berserk or Gurren Lagann are better.

But those arnt fighting Anime.

LOL That just started happening. If we are basing it on popularity and willingness of the studio to whore out it's property then you'd be right.

True, we did just get a new movie after quite the hiatus.
But what about Specials? They had a cannon Anniversary special just a short while back right?

And don't forget Dragonball Kai, the "HD" remake/reair that's still going strong.

AND the yearly Videogame Releases for nearly 15 years.

AAAAAAND the popular Abridged Series that's buffing that undying flame.

AAAAAAAAAAAND the numerous inspired works that are currently popular and unashamedly proud of their inspiration.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND the large cast of instantly recognizable characters from the loved Goku and the oddly unforgotten henchmen like Appule, Tambourine, and Mai.
That Art style....its just so unique man.

The franchise wasn't revived like the dead Berserk Anime series and its Remake movies. Its still kicking.

Okay I'll grant you that it's crazy popular and has a bunch loyal fans, me included. But the best? DBZ is full of cringe moments. The endless standing around and boasting of the Saiyan/Frieza arcs, the censoring of the Cell arc (compared to the manga) and that Battle of Gods movie...

We got the Simpsons here and it's popular and funny as hell but Futurama is a better show... Thats my analogy anyway.

Unless you haven't watched it since you were little, it isn't going to be. But yesss it is. No one else does the kamehameha vs kamehameha like Gohan and Cell do. Other animes are influenced by that

Well DBZ has the most fights i've seen in an anime. It's unique in it's own way. While other anime's have many other elements mixed. While DBZ is fully action packed.

First off, Battle of the Gods was far less cringe as I thought it was going to be. I watched it with a group of 11 friends and family, including my mom and my friends mom. I was surprised at how little cringing I did.

The anime Simpsons is Cased Closed.

Let's take pot shots as the standing around and shouting! Its totally not an overused and not something that everyone uses.

The primary complaint of standing around is attributed and often a focus of the Cell Saga. Between the Androids and through the Cell games we had no filler and just a lot of standing. This is easily ignored when watching it in DVD, but its a huge complaint back when it aired in 1990.

Friezas namek arc is famously long, one of the longest before Naruto had a 130+ episode Filler Arc, Bleach was trapped in Hecto-Dr. Mundo for 3 years(the English dub never escaped it), and One Piece got lost in The epicly slow Marine Ford.

I havnt even talked about fellow 80's compatriots like Fist of the North Star and it's graphically silly violence and amazing characters and most pointless filler-karate-of-the-week episodes.

Instead of downplaying Dragonball, up-play something else. Like Hunter X Hunter. Remember that guy who looked like Cell?

Or perhaps we can talk about Bleach. Remember when he fought against what's his name with the what's that swords power in the wherever they were?

I would love to bring up Fist of the North Star where Kenshiro fights Raoh, but have you even seen it? Does the name Rei bring up a sexy teal haired man who uses South Star Karate?

In terms of action, yes, it is probably the best manga/anime off all time

As a guy who grew up with DBZ, I will say that out of all the "martial-art" based anime out there, DBZ isn't the best. It was a phenomenal anime at the time, but calling it the best martial art anime out there would be wholly incorrect.

I hate fighting anime where it takes 10 motherfreaking episodes for it to finish a fight. Not my cup of tea.
