I have no idea whats technically canon or not in Dragonball since I've never read the manga, but I really missed all the parts they left out of Kai. Like those filler episodes before the Cell Games? Those were some of my favorites.

Its actually far less than you think. Dragonball manga came out like shotgun despite the Anime catching up as early as Demon King Piccolo

Far less of it is canon? Or far less of it is filler?

The filler where stuff happened (ala Piccolo 2.0/Pikkon and Driving School) was great.

Goku standing and powering up a Spirit Bomb for several episodes is not. Especially when it doesn't end up killing Frieza.

DBZ is like any other classic - it's easy to see things better than it, now, because everybody can improve on what it did. That doesn't take away what it was or how big it is, but that doesn't mean there aren't better anime out there. It's still very impactful, to me. But it's not one of my favorite series. Not even close.

The nostalgia effect of DBZ has worn off of me to be honest. I liked it and watched it when I was a kid, but I dunno, I guess you can say I enjoy more complex flavors these days. Hunter x Hunter is the best shonen action series in my opinion. Although I haven't seen much of YuYu Hakusho so I can't say whether Togashi did better with that or not.

I used to own the name Ging on like a dozen WoW servers before my account got hacked, I also own it in GW2. I like Jing better than Ging though, so I decided to use Jing instead.

They kind of look alike now that I think about it.

It's a legitimate complaint, that's why everyone goes to it. They have other ways to fill time these days.

So as a fan right off the bat when people try to praise Z I tell them to watch Dragon Ball. The movies are great, shows what Toei can do when they actually give a shit, but for me it just makes watching the TV anime even more underwhelming. By that virtue alone I consider anime that bring it every episode better than shows that don't. That's just me though.

A legitimate complaint it shares with the massive Genre of which it pioneered.

Hence I ask you to provide examples of better fighters rather than spend put time talking solely of the faults of a show, as ai can find many faults with any show. No movie is without Sin, what makes anime any different?

This is just my list...

Disciple Kenichi
Fate/Stay-Zero
Peacemaker Kurogane
HxH
FMA
Gintama
Rarouni Kenshin
Hajime no Ippo
Kill la Kill
Magi
Claymore
Blood+

They all have their faults but as far as fights go I think these shows have DBZ topped. Edit: imho

So we have entered the superior phase 2 of our discussion!

By the way, I am rewatching .hack Sign again as I type this...I really love .Hack/Sign

Argument time!
Hajime Ni Ippo is far better animated and a great show in its own right, but can you name anybody Ippo fights? I just remember nationalities and special moves. Even the rocky-guy I should know the name of is just "super strong rocky guy" that's not a proper fighter! Its a Sports show about fighting!

Kenichi IS s fighter, but it lacks an ending and runs around with neat yet silly fighting. Including a "don't fight girls" arc. Its decent, no big problems overall.

Gintama is a parody, it affectionately parodies Dragonball Z.

Claymore is another neat Madhouse work, but its dark and is more monster of the week than fighter.

Peacemaker is a historical drama. Like, how is this a fighter to you?

I'm going to ignore HxH, Magi, Kenshin, and such because I like'm and theyneed their own posts and such.

But Kill la Kill...its a personal favorite of mine. Stuff..

.hack/sign has stolen all my attention. I'm not arguing about how good a show is, I'm talking about DBZ, a fighter
..stuff...

I lost all focus for now.

I'll agree to disagree. By the way you should watch Peacemaker Kurogane. It's a lot more than a "historical drama".

I saw it, it was not very good...

Honestly, it does nothing that Ruonin Kenshin doesn't do better. And that is a mark against it right from the start!

I think comparing it to RK would be the wrong way to look it but you can think what you will.

No, DBZ is not. Long story short, the series should have ended at the end of the Frieza saga. What came after was either subpar or blew.
