Nope

To me a game is like watching a movie, I just happen to have control over how the movie progresses.

The character I play is just who I think best fits the movie as the star.

Been replaying Skirim lately and I'm rotating between 4 different characters. 2 Male 2 Female. I gave each one a different set of goals and restrictions and play each accordingly. I have a personality attached to each of them.

One is a noble Jack-of-all trades out to bring peace and become Thane of every holding. One is pure Stormcloak Nord through and through and she will chop you down just for wearing the wrong colors. One is a witch out for personal power and the last is a general scumbag thief and killer now working as an Imperial...problem solver.

The stories end up being very different because of concious roleplaying choices.

It's definitely not weird. It's not even a question of weird or not it just happens.

Not particularly. If you're one of those types of guys who installs mods to make your character as naked/big-chested as possible, then yeah, I find you less than respectable, but hey if that floats your boat then whatever. I remember people, males and females alike, who would make female characters (often in their underwear) and attempt to get gold off higher level players by flirting and saying they're new. Pssh. I played from vanilla WoW to Cataclysm so I don't know if that still happens, but urgh, shame on you. If you're not sitting there objectifying and oversexualizing your female character, then that's all the better imo.

No, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it, unless you're doing with the wrong intentions in mind. I often find myself making cute females in games, as I'd rather stare at cute girls than guys anyways and I'm sure there's some females who'd rather play attractive males as well. I don't always make female characters though, as it is mostly depends on the game and the character customization for me.

Wether or not I like to play as the opposite sex depends on the game (i.e. how males and females are represented within the game). I play what I feel most happy with.

Being a straight guy, I usually play female characters since I prefer looking at girls over men. However, I also like to play as a male and perhaps that is because I identify myself as one.

Playing as the opposite sex isn't weird. People never get the chance to try out the opposite sex irl so why not do it in a game

Nah. I have a male friend who always plays as chicks and I harmlessly tease him about it haha.

Whenever I'm playing Pokemon I always pick the character that I think looks cooler. For example, in Pokemon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby, I will play as May because what the hell Brendan's white hair was actually a hat

In my opinion, it's not weird to play as the opposite sex. It is, however, hilarious if you pretend to be the opposite sex. This is especially true with GIRLs (Guy in Real Life) in MMORPGs. A lot of times it's very easy to tell if the player behind a female character is really a female, or is a GIRL.

Only if you don't put your character in the skimpiest armor available.

I once heard a great answer to this question: If you are going to spend hours staring at the rear of your character then it might as well be a nice one.

No, I usually act like my usual self even if i play as female characters in games and MMO.
There is only this one incident where i pretended to be a girl because to get back at this griefer who like to kill low levels player for no reason, in my defense, he started flirting first and i decided to break his heart rather than his toon since he is full geared with pay to win skillsets and i am just a low level player.

@thread: I sometimes play female characters, just cause it's something different.

No. On the contrary, I technically like being the opposite sex, because it lets me see everything through a female's perspective, even if it's not much different from a male perspective.
