To Quarantine Or Not To Quarantine?

I know a lot of you must be tired of all the ebola talk lately, but I have a very serious question. This topic is specifically about the quarantine policy several states have put in place in these last few days.

After Dr. Spencer was diagnosed with ebola in NYC on Thursday, Governors Andrew Cuomo (NY) and Chris Christie (NJ) created a mandatory 21 day quarantine rule for returning health care workers who treated ebola patients in West Africa. Then a few other states put in place quarantine policies of their own. A nurse named Kaci Hickox returned from Sierra Leone and was quarantined in New Jersey before returning to her home in Maine and started throwing some tantrum telling the whole country that her public rights are being violated, there's no reason for a quarantine, and she's threatening to sue if she doesn't get things her way. The white house is siding with her while the state of Maine threatens to take legal action against her if she continues to be uncooperative. Now there's this huge debate about whether quarantining health care workers returning from West Africa is logical.

http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/ebola-virus-outbreak/hagel-approves-21-day-ebola-quarantine-troops-n236631

So my question is:

Do you feel people who have had contact with ebola patients in West Africa should be quarantined for 21 days when they return home?

What I think: (Warning: it's very long)

Please be mindful and respect other people's opinions. This is a serious discussion. I'm curious to know what other people here on CR think since I live in one of the states with the mandatory quarantine and I can't stand seeing how this issue is being treated by the government, specifically by the white house and the top health care officials paid to say a certain thing in favor of something irrational.

Nigga likely owns at least 10% of it.

It's a "damned if you do, and damned if you don't" kind of situation.

If the US continued to not take any measures against the spread of Ebola, they would be criticized for being careless.
Now that a few people got infected, they decided to take those preventative measures. Only to be criticized for overreaction and taking away human rights for a period of time.

All this happening while Canada and Europe are laughing at the uneducated running around shouting "It's all Obamas fault!" at every chance they get.

For quarantine.

Prevention is better than cure.

Even though Obama didn't cause this mess, it's hard to say he's been doing a good job dealing with it. The ebola czar he hired hasn't even gotten to work yet. He missed his first meeting and hasn't done anything. The white house is now sending mixed signals saying "quarantine is evil blah blah blah" and then later in the same day they approve of a quarantine for people who have had less contact with ebola than the health care workers have had. The only down side of having a quarantine is that you have white house officials mad at you, which could actually be considered a compliment at this point.

They should quarantine. But seriously, when they do, they should make the health workers as comfortable as possible. They should get every luxury they request while under quarantine. They haven't committed a crime, and it seems to me they are sometimes treated like prisoners.

There should be a quarantine when they get back if they weren't tested for the virus upon leaving which ever country they came from that they had interactions with someone with it. Even then I think it is best to be safe than sorry in this situation so I'm all for a 21 day quarantine I mean its not that long of time, sure it would suck but its for the safety of other people. The way this Kaci Hicox is acting I hope she does get the virus and she can eat her words.

They who volunteer are doing us all a favor fighting the disease at the source of outbreak. With that they have a professional obligation as to not spread it wider. We should think about setting up a high class isolated beach bungalow resort and give them three weeks paid vacation with a pat on the back.

The thing about that is that the quarantine guidelines were updated on Sunday so that the quarantine can be done from the comfort of their own homes and they can even have visitors too. They get paid during this brief period of time and this nurse is STILL shouting "MY HUMAN RIGHTS ARE BEING VIOLATED! HELP ME!"

Quarantine. I don't wanna catch something that could kill me cause you can't sit down and wait to see if you're okay. Its selfish of her to flip out, while at the same time it isn't. Either way I vote quarantine, or kick her out of the country.

I regret making that ebola post weeks back. I just can't wait for this to die off. Pun intended.
