honestly you shouldn't believe everything you see on the internet a for republicans being worse than democrats just remember that soldiers are losing jobs because of democrats, the job market hasn't improved at all under a democrat president, and now we are sending soldiers back to Iraq because before the region was stabilized enough we pulled out thanks to citizens and the democrats. Im not saying war is great or republicans are better i honestly hate both parties im just saying dont trust everything you see on the internet.

Okay. Now that I have observed a moment of fake silence I have come to see that This is not good! We must somehow stop voting for those evil bastards!! A lot of things you posted there about Democrats are false lies you would find on the Internet but I'm not gonna go into depth about it. Flame wars are for the Extended Discussion section.

If you are going to twist perspectives and opinions into being "false lies" back it up with your own views. Threads like this are started under the idea of a flame war, and posting here at all means you are into it, quit trying to act high and mighty.

A personal observation: All governments are tyrannies--some just have better window dressing.

(Just remember that Washington begged his fellow patriots to not fall victim to a two-party political system, fearing that politics would become more important than governing justly. Poor guy was right.)

^^Couldn't have said it better...

Pay attention to the the Hong Kong protests, because they are protesting against China creating an American style voting system (introduction of political parties), which the youth of Hong Kong are aware of how undemocratic this system really is.

IMO, with the interconnection people have with technology, governments are now like organized religions, relics from the past that many people shouldn't take serious at this day and age.

If you wish to follow/abide by said institution (organized religion/government) then go ahead, but everyone shouldn't be forced into doing so.

Don't vote, its a waste of time because of how corrupt it is (gerrymandering, electoral votes, corporate person hood, political parties, ect) and the decision between the fascists (democrats) and the oligarchs (republicans) is no choice at all

And a two-party system FORCES representatives to take a side that might not even have the same beliefs he or she holds. The two party system is a way of making politics black and white (or REP or DEM in this case).

The purpose of having representatives is to have someone that you believe will represent you fairly in your interests, not for the representative to be forced into having beliefs of a party. Thus forces YOUR beliefs into something you don't believe or want.

Poor Washington, they listened to him on pretty much everything except this.

I'd jump into this thread to argue some of those points, but all the spin has gotten me too dizzy. This is basically a repackaging of the voter ID debate. I'd rather see stricter voting regulations than rampant voter fraud. But hey, that's just me. This isn't a black and white issue, but if you want to keep tuning into Al Jazeera for your sources then it probably will end up that way for you.

If you believe Republicans are the source of all evil, and Democrats are a pristine perfect party that promotes a utopian society, then you should read a history book once in a while. Or just pull the wool over your eyes.

But at the end of the day what I'd really rather do is discuss anime on Crunchyroll. Leave the rest of the internet for divisive, partisan debates that go no where.

Those 400 people in Florida would probably disagree with you.

OK, it somehow reads as if Mugen417's comment is being attributed to me. Not that I necessarily disagree, but I did not make the quoted statement. I do find it interesting, however, how many US citizens seem to believe that they live in a democracy. We do not. The United States is a republic--it says so right in the preamble to the Constitution. Republics are indeed oligarchies, and are different from democracies. My own theory is that because people participate more actively in and with government at the local level--and because most local government in the US is democratic in form--these people mistakenly believe that their national government is also democratic in form. Such a syllogism is an example of Aristotlean reasoning from example to form, which process introduced deductive reasoning. Unfortunately, deductive reasoning can only determine if a statement is valid, not if it is true. As applied to the convoluted tiers of US governmental structures, this syllogism is false. Democracy on the local level is no indicator of democracy on the national level.

Don't get me wrong, the democrats aren't good on the whole, either. I just think one party is worse than the other, and I think it is stupid when some people say "one party is just as bad as the other". They are not equally bad.

I don't exactly agree on the concept that things would be fine for the middle class if a Republican was elected to the Oval Office in the last 2 elections. The GW Bush policy was expand Medicare, cut taxes, watch the deficits rise and ramp up defense spending. Obama policy: affordable care act, let the tax cuts expire because they aren't sustainable, let defense spending level off because it's not sustainable. The bailout was supported by both parties but let's be honest, the Republicans like tax cuts a lot and didn't want to spend the money on infrastructure (with the exception of oil pipelines which Republicans like)

I don't want to be too kind to the left here. It seems pretty clear that with their support on H1B Visas they aren't looking out for my best interests or many people in the middle class. Being skeptical of the benefits of trickle town and being a social libertarian pretty much decides who I vote for though.

(satire satire satire people)

If poor people in general would just give up their rights and accept their station as the peasant class, Republicans wouldn't have to single out minorities.

Everybody back to work. Your trash is starting to blow into my nice gated community. If you want to own a big fancy house like this, you're going to have to toil for less than a living wage until you die. Your mansion will be a nice pine box and a spot in Heaven somewhere far away from me.

Me, I'm not worried about a revolt. The peasants are always revolting.

I hate our two party system. I hate politics in this country. U.S. politics are scummy and sometimes vile. But what can we do? Some people have created this two party system and people work to maintain it. For some people, they don't want to modify it all in an effort to improve things because then it would serve to work against their party (so both democrats and republicans are fine with the status quo, where all they end up doing is playing tug of war each and every year as hardly anything gets done in Washington).

I'd like political reform in this country and for things to improve. I wish we were there already or at least in the process of it. But if those positive changes do indeed happen sometime in our future, it won't come anytime soon. Who knows if it'll ever come, as in the meantime, this broken clusterfuck in Washington is poisoning America and dragging it down.

This is why I love american politics so much more than the politics of my own country. American politics is like what would happen if someone made a cartoon about politics. Where the republican party is the crappily written, brainless, cartoonishly villainous bad guy from 90's children's television shows.

The priority of the party politicians definitely seems to be keeping their party in power under the guise of "well, if we can gain enough control, eventually we can do whatever we want and then all your needs will be met, so be patient and keep voting for us and not the other party. Or you'll regret it."

Where are the politicians who campaign by using their contributions to fix potholes or clean up parks or fix any local problem? At least something good would come out of it instead of a bunch of form ads that gently slander a candidate for their party's agenda.
