Should they show more of the ecchi scenes instead of blocking them?

They should cause those white screens that go on to block the show just block out sometimes more of the scene than they are intended to

I really think it depends on how the censorship is done. I've seen some that is either intentionally done in an amusing way (High School DxD and the the little flapping logos), artistically (Samurai Girls and the ink drops), and done so that you hardly know it is there. Then, there are the shows that are almost unwatchable because it was done so badly (So I can't Play H).

I will say it's artistic expression and I hate censorship. That said, there are 13 year olds on Crunchy Roll, and while I have no doubt ecchi isn't as bad as what some of them have seen, I see no point in contributing to delinquency of kids.

They do that so you'll buy the uncensored version on DVD or BluRay. It's self censorship for the sake of profit. Sometimes this is done tastefully (a bit of censor steam or some icon), sometimes it renders the censored version completely unwatchable (as in the case of So I Can't Play H?).

Because it's not the Animation Studio that wants to censor them, it's usually the TV channel. Thus they use white lights, or black lines then they remove them for the Home Video releases.

Buy the BluRays and DVDs if they're so important to you.

The censorship is done to boost dvd sales! #tinfoilhat

I'd rather not have any at all, but if they can make it look like they aren't censoring it, then it doesn't bother me.

Such as bathing scenes with mist, if they can make it look like a natural part of the scene and not a half-assed attempt at covering boobs then it's okay. But if they just use black dots like in Terraformars its sloppy and unprofessional. Or even more obnoxious, blacking out 90% of the screen...

It's not that, it takes away from the viewing experience. It's not just Ecchi scenes as a huge many have witnessed recently with TERRAFORMARS, censorship just sucks no matter what it's for. If the subject bothers one so much that one is ok with censoring it, then perhaps that person is watching the wrong shows!

Terraformers hasn't interested me enough to keep up with it for now, but from what I've heard it's on the extreme side of censoring, whereas with most ecchi stuff, a beam of light hard takes away from the experience. With censoring graphic violence in a show like Terraformers, it's virtually inarguable that something gets taken away from the experience. Not being able to see a naked girl in just any random anime because of censoring doesn't take much away, I believe.

I'm not going to act like I don't like the ecchi, I enjoy it very much. That said however, to much does take away from the show and some shows don't actually need fan service at all. If i'm watching a show I want to watch it, it bothers me that when that inevitable all girl bath scene comes up(what's with that exactly anyways) the breast shots have extra fog or there's a sudden light glare. it just seems silly to block it...

Wait. You're saying that it's a crazy conspiracy theory that censorship is occurring to boost sales for uncensored DVDs and BluRays (#tinfoilhat), but you simultaneously acknowledge that people are pulling crap like this?

There's no way that's being done to make the show suitable for broadcasting. Why does that happen if not to bolster sales for the uncensored version?
