So I've listened to rap essentially all my life. Never got into rock. Now that I'm older I come to appreciate it more.

I'm just having trouble finding, I guess the right genre, of rock music. I have less than 10 rock songs on my itunes, but the songs I do have I really enjoy and was hoping if someone can point me in the right direction to similar songs/bands.

I want that happy, uplifting type rock I guess. Some examples:

Otherside - Red hot chilli peppers
Under the bridge
Can't stop
Santeria

Yeah I'm not really sure if you get my point but if you do I'd appreciate some help haha.

Thanks in advance.

Motion City Soundtrack - L.G. FUAD
Puddle of Mudd - Blurry (You'll love that one for sure)
P.O.D. - Beautiful
12 Stones - The Way I Feel
P.O.D. - Strength of My Life

Happy rock? no metal or punk? and Otherside doesn't sound too happy to me.

My recs (keep in mind that I'm an old school at heart):

The Wallflowers - One headlight
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zzyfcys1aLM

Weezer - Island In The Sun
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erG5rgNYSdk
"Hash pipe" also has that happy feeling...it's also hilarious

Muse - Feeling good
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqqnxEmSOB4
"Starlight", "Uprising", "The Groove", "Crying shame", "plug in baby", "I belong to you" etc etc....I love Muse so I can just recommend all their songs but those ones have a happy beat (at least to me).

Marcy Playground - It's Saturday
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKtUrS6QTOo
They have many more like "St. Joe On The School Bus", "Good times", "Comin' Up from behind", "I must have been dreaming"...etc they are a great band and most of their songs are for "chilling" XD

The Verve - Bitter Sweet Symphony
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lyu1KKwC74
If you like the Verve, you may also like The Cure, The Rolling Stones, The doors, and Oasis...they are classic rock bands. (and The Beatles)

Eagles - Hotel California
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0G1Ucw5HDg
Another oldie here...not sure if that's what you would like.

Blur - Song 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSbBvKaM6sk
My favorites are "Coffee and Tv", "There's no other way", "Girls and boys", "Parklife"...etc

The Smashing Pumpkins - Today
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmUZ6nCFNoU
It's one of my favorites of all time

Deftones - Leathers
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPO81Fz4s2g

Lifehouse - Sky is falling
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6omkjL65ss

Chevelle - I get it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiIMqSqabGs

The Offspring - Pretty fly
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzY2Qcu5i2A
Other ones with a good beat are "The Kids Aren't Alright", "Want you bad", "Hit that"

System of a down - Chop Suey!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSvFpBOe8eY

Sixx AM -Life is beautiful
Didn't find the song in youtube...

Marilyn Manson has many songs that make me happy...regardless of the lyrics lol
Atonishing Panorama of the endtimes, Disposable teens,The beautiful people, This is the new shit, The dope show...

I have a friend of mine who recommended me these songs and I like them...they are spanish rock bands, very different to the rock I'm usually used to but very interesting....these ones have a happy beat to it.

Soda Stereo - De musica ligera
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IibXYWSBpZw

Enanitos verdes - Lamento Boliviano
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYOSVTDvbUQ

Thank you both for you time.

I listened to every song that was listed and enjoyed the majority of them. I'm definitely going to expand on the ones I like the best. I know the songs I listed weren't to my description haha they're just ones I enjoyed I guess.

I meant to put I want some music where I can blast in my car with my windows down if you get my feel. I deliver pizzas as my source of income so music matching that would be ideal. However I liked the majority of the songs that were listed.

Thanks again guys, appreciate it.

You're welcome^^ I can see I completely misunderstood your request For driving I like to listen to Gothic Metal like Nightwish(the old songs...don't like the new singer that much...now it sounds like pop music with her voice), Theorion, Kamelot, Tristania etc

You can put Red Hot chilli peppers in Pandora and many similar songs and artists will come up. Good luck in finding that perfect playlist for driving...I have to drive 4 hours everyday because of work so I know how important it is to have the right music on.

Rock's tough since there are so many sub genre's now. I heard an interview on Octane by Sully of Godsmack who said he thought Rock needed to stop trying to differentiate itself and just be 'rock' again.

Some good stuff that's on the newer side you might like though:

Imagine Dragons - Alternative Rock
Arctic Monkeys - Alternative Rock
The Fray - Alternative Rock
Godsmack - Hard Rock
Pretty Wreckless - Hard Rock
Halestorm - Hard Rock
Van Halen - Classic Rock
AC/DC - Class Rock
Metallica - Hard Rock
Ameranthe - Hard Rock
Skillet - Hard Rock
Thousand Foot Krutch - Hard Rock

Just some ideas, youtube'm and check them out.

Try some classic rock, such as Boston, Led Zepplin, Foreigner, Journey, Bad Company. For punk rock, I like Rise Against and Panic! At the Disco.

I always thought Mad Capsule Markets were uplifting, they're kinda different... digital hardcore but catchy.. this sounds a little like pop punk in parts.

I love your choices!

Besides the names mentioned above, I would advise Arctic Monkeys, Black Keys, Foals; Tame Impala, Franz Ferdinand, The Libertines, Boomtown Rats, AC/DC, Talking Heads, Feeder, The Stooges, Weezer, Violent Femmes and Pearl Jam (personally I prefer their early work)... can't remember any more. Uplifting rock isn't my kind of rock also (at least I think I understand what you want), if you want some noise, progressive or punk/ post-punk rock I'll gladly help you. ^^
