I was thinking about starting Naruto. I know that it's ending, but that's not my concern. Do you guys think that it's too late to start watching it? I've realized over time, that most anime fans have watched or at least dropped Naruto, and I guess I feel a little "left out". I feel like I'm missing out on anime history.

I've always hated on Naruto, only because of it's popularity. I now realize that that's a stupid reason to hate something.

So my question is:
IS IT TOO LATE TO BEGIN WATCHING NARUTO?

Nah. It's utter trash right now; just a huge convoluted mess of nothing that needs to end but I think it's definitely worth watching before Naruto goes SSJ.

Don't worry, Naruto deserves at least some of the hate it gets. It has a shit load of pointless fillers, and there are times where the plot moves along at a snail's pace.

It has a lot of really good moments don't get me wrong, but it's like an ounce of gold covered in a pile of shit.

However if you want to start watching it, I recommend you find out which episodes are fillers and skip those. It will cut your watching time in half.

Thanks guys. Even though it may be terrible right now, or just filled with fillers, but I feel as if I'm missing some anime history. I mean, I see the word "Naruto" ALL over the place, and it's clearly the most popular anime in the world, so I just don't know.

To be fair (and show common sense for once) they only had filler to separate the gap between the anime and manga, hence the reason why we have constant canon episodes currently

As much hate as Naruto gets, it still wouldn't be getting as much attention if there wasn't something special about it. I think that it's worth it and there is always enough time to get into it. Sorry if I sound like a fanboy, but it's my childhood and I still think someone could find enjoyment in it even if it isn't the best series around.

Watch the fillers. Some of them were actually really good.

it's not on my "Must-watch-this-anime-before-you-die" list... (i don't actually have such a list, it's just a figure of speech).

you can do without. i like it and i'm up to date with naruto, but the dialogues are some of the cheesiest i've seen in anime. and the relationship between itachi and his village, and itachi and sasuke is a bit absurd to me... :-/.

and even though the show is called, "naruto", i feel like it's more about the Uchiha clan... :S it's the uchiha clan that set off most events in the story... yet the story is called, "Naruto".

If you've got a library nearby with all or most of the manga I'd recommend that, when you have the physical copies you can get through them pretty quick. Which beats the hell out of however many hundreds of hours the anime is at now.

And then you can find the episodes for any really good parts you'd like to see animated.

Oh dear. If you start from ground zero, there are so many arcs that were booooring. I could not rewatch it like I would with Dragon Ball.

Naruto is one of the best anime's out there and I think it is definitely worth watching. Most of the hate for Naruto is because of its popularity and filler episodes. Filler episodes are a necessity for most anime like Naruto so I don't hold it against it. Hating something because it is popular is just plain stupid. Naruto is well written, has good character development, awesome soundtrack (one of the best in my opinion) and great battle sequences. Watch at least the first few episodes and judge for yourself. You may end up not liking it but you should definitely give it a chance.

It's the best time to watch Naruto, because you can skip the fillers and will likely never have to deal with 6 month long stints of utter bullshit while waiting for a halfways decent episode to air.

http://www.animefillerlist.com/shows/naruto-shippuden

Do yourself a favor and use those lists as your new bible. For the first series it's pretty easy; the fillers are by and large the last third of it. I didn't know when I watched it that those were filler episodes, and the month I spent slogging through them was pretty agonizing.

Shippuden filler is even worse because they're way harder to separate from canon. They interspersed filler way more frequently than they did in the original series so skipping it ends up being more of a chore. Plus they also reference some of the filler in actual episodes and it can be sort of confusing. That being said, I still think you should skip all Shippuden filler with the exception of the Kakashi Shadow of the ANBU arc. That arc is technically filler back story stuff, but it shouldn't be skipped because it's pretty good reinforces the main storyline.

A lot of people would probably argue to watch the filler. But we're talking something like 250 episodes of completely skippable and often extremely boring material that offers no progression. That's a significant time investment to watch all of that.
